Scandalous remarks regarding the Narin Güran murder! Spoke upon leaving prison: 'The mother and brother are not the killers'
DEM Party Kocaeli MP Dr. Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, in a statement made in front of Erzincan Prison, argued that the mother and son, who are currently imprisoned in connection with the Narin Güran murder that has dominated Turkey's agenda, are innocent. Stating that the mother, who has lost 30 kilos in prison, cried out her innocence in tears, Gergerlioğlu said, "The public conscience rejects this decision."
DEM Party Kocaeli MP Dr. Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu made striking assessments regarding the Narin Güran murder, which has shaken Turkey's agenda, in a statement made in front of the Erzincan Penal Execution Institutions Campus.
"SHE HAS LOST 30 KILOS IN PRISON"
Stating that he held a long meeting with the Güran family, Gergerlioğlu said, "Mother Yüksel Güran burst into tears, saying, 'I am as innocent as a newborn baby, my heart burns for my child.' She has lost 30 kilos since entering prison and has practically collapsed. Seeing her in this state breaks one's heart," he stated.
Gergerlioğlu noted that he had previously visited Narin Güran's village regarding the incident and had examined the file in detail.
"THE MOTHER AND BROTHER ARE NOT THE KILLERS"
"When I combine my observations in the village, the information in the file, and what I heard today, I have reached the conclusion that this mother and brother have no connection to the murder," he said.
Emphasizing that the decision is not accepted by the public conscience, Gergerlioğlu stated, "Of course, the judiciary will make the decision, but my conscience tells me that this decision is harsh and unjust."
"THE PUBLIC CONSCIENCE REJECTS THIS DECISION"
Reminding that evidence and conscience must be evaluated together in criminal law, Gergerlioğlu said, "It is unacceptable to darken people's lives through incomplete evidence and media agitation, and to declare a woman and her son 'murderers'. The public conscience will reject this decision."
"MAY PRISONS NOT BE FILLED, MAY JUSTICE PREVAIL"
During his visit, Gergerlioğlu also touched upon general problems at Erzincan Prison, reporting that there are far more detainees than the capacity allows, that there are serious disruptions in healthcare services, and that the condition of sick prisoners is worrying.
Gergerlioğlu concluded his statement as follows:
"I hope the new judicial package will be a source of hope for elderly, sick, and imprisoned parents with children. I wish for a fair Turkey where people are no longer crammed into prisons."
