Scandalous report in the Narin Güran murder case! According to phone signals, who was in the area where the body was found?

An additional report requested by the court regarding narrowed HTS records and base station overlaps in the murder of Narin Güran—who went missing after leaving a Quran course on August 21 in Tavşantepe Village, Bağlar District, Diyarbakır, and whose body was found in a sack in a stream near the village on September 8—has reached the court.

In the hearing on November 7, the court had decided to obtain an additional report indicating the methods used by the report's authors, which base data and devices were utilized, which criteria were followed, the scientific techniques relied upon, and the possibility of any margin of error.

SÖZCÜ has obtained the 5-page additional report prepared by a 3-person expert committee, which includes the following information:

Mobile phones connect to the mobile network via base stations.

Data is transmitted between phones and base stations via radio frequencies.

When a user makes a call, sends a message, or connects to the internet, this information reaches the base station via radio signals and is then transmitted to the operator's main communication network.

One of the methods for geographical location detection using base stations is the Triangulation method.

When a mobile phone is in contact with at least three base stations, the operator can approximately determine the phone's location using distance information to these base stations.

A distance is calculated based on the strength and propagation time of the signal coming from each base station.

Then, this information is used to determine the area where the phone is located.

While conducting the narrow-area base station detection study, all base stations in Tavşantepe Village and worldwide were identified one by one in light of data obtained through various licensed programs designed for HTS analysis, primarily Open Signal, Network Cell İnfo Lite, and Netmonters. The signal strength values and cell information of all base stations in the village were evaluated individually, and cell information overlap and separation analyses were performed.

An assessment was made of the locations where the phones used by the mentioned individuals could be.

Narrowed base station studies were conducted at different days and times, both day and night, on the roads and areas between the homes of Uncle Salim, father Arif Güran, and Nevzat Bahtiyar. Specifically, while working in and around the homes of Arif and Salim Güran, factors such as having officials in the area turn off their mobile phones to prevent congestion on the base stations were taken into account. Using at least two Turkcell, Vodafone, and Türk Telekom lines with different programs, a step-by-step study was conducted on the main roads, at the homes of Arif and Salim Güran and Nevzat Bahtiyar, and their outbuildings. A definitive determination was made after hundreds of operations were performed on main, secondary, and GPRS base stations without leaving room for error.

Because the area where Narin Güran's body was found is lower than the village, base stations could provide coverage over a slightly wider area, and detailed base station studies could not be conducted in parts such as the cornfield and the location where the body was found due to the vastness of the regions.

Tavşantepe Village does not receive signals from a single base station as claimed, but from 22 different base stations around the village.

Furthermore, it was determined that Salim Güran arrived at Arif Güran's house at 15:20 on the day of the incident, and his base station was identified as Sur Abdaldede Gazi Street via the 666342808032 Turkcell operator.

It was determined that he moved to the barn section of the house at 15:22, and his phone base station was 666339323022, Dicle-Sur.

It was determined that he was inside the house between 15:22 and 15:26, and his base station was 665754107021, identified as Diyarbakır Bağlar Yeniköy Bediüzzaman Street Yeniköy Cemetery via the Turkcell operator.

It was concluded that Salim Güran entered Arif Güran's house around 15:36, and his base stations were 665754107021, Diyarbakır-Bağlar-Yeniköy Cemetery, Bediüzzaman Street, and Sur Abdaldede Gazi Street.

It was determined that Salim, who spoke with Mehmet Selim Atasoy around 15:52, was at Arif Güran's residence and received a signal from the base station at Sur Abdaldede Gazi Street, with the base station ID 666342808032. It was determined that at 16:08, he was behind Arif Güran's house, and his base station was 666339323023 Sur-Dicle-Sur/Diyarbakır.

It was concluded that at 16:35, he was in the cornfield towards Uzunbahçe, and his base station was 666239512047 Diyarbakır-Bağlar-Buçuktepe-Uzunbahçe-Kuyuluhöyük.

It was determined that Nevzat Bahtiyar was on the road between Arif and Salim Güran's houses and near Arif Güran's house on the day of the incident, and his base station was 666242016022 Bağlar-Selahattin Eyyübi 317th Street Bayındırlık-Bağlar. It was determined that at 15:18, he was near Arif Güran's house, and his base stations were Sur-Yeşilvadi-Çarıklı.

It was determined that at 15:27, he was at Arif Güran's house and its outbuildings, and his base station was identified as Yeniköy-Bediüzzaman-Yeniköy Cemetery, 665754107021.

It is seen that at 16:00, he was in the area where Narin's body was found, and his base station was 666316337031 Sur-Yeşilvadi 1028th Street Diyarbakır-Sur-Hasırlı base stations.

We would like to emphasize that looking at base station numbers alone would lead to errors. While making these determinations, data regarding signal strength obtained as a result of our measurements in the region, the sequence of base station transitions in the person's HTS report, the distinction between secondary, main, and side base stations providing service to the region, and other issues we have mentioned are being evaluated.

We would also like to emphasize that there cannot be the slightest room for interpretation in narrow-area base station studies, that the results of the work performed are directed according to the calls in the HTS and the density or variability of the base stations, that the high number of base stations provides an advantage in determining the location of events and individuals, and that while these studies are being conducted, there may be a margin of error of approximately 1 to 2 meters and 1 minute due to transitions between base stations and mobility.

Furthermore, it was determined that the phone used by Salim Güran on August 21, the day Narin went missing, gave a signal from the cornfield where Narin's body was found between 22:47 and 22:55, and the area referred to as the cornfield is described as the field near the location where Narin's body was found.

Regarding the Narin Güran murder, no evidence other than the HTS records in the file and Salim Güran's initial statement has been touched upon, no samples have been taken from statements, and no minutes or reports regarding camera footage have been obtained; only the data obtained as a result of the work we have done in the field has been reported.
