Security measures increased for New Year's Eve in Istanbul: Which areas are closed to vehicle entry?

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that 60,000 police officers will be on duty as part of New Year's security measures.

The statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office is as follows:

SECURITY MEASURES AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

All necessary measures have been taken to ensure that our Istanbul welcomes the year 2025 in peace.

On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, security measures will be implemented at the highest level throughout the city, especially in centers where our citizens will be present in large numbers.

60,068 PERSONNEL ON DUTY

Our Police, Gendarmerie, and Coast Guard units will be on duty with a total of 60,068 personnel to ensure our citizens can welcome the year 2025 in peace. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure that our Istanbul welcomes the year 2025 in peace.

On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, security measures will be implemented at the highest level throughout the city, especially in centers where our citizens will be present in large numbers. Our Police, Gendarmerie, and Coast Guard units will be on duty with a total of 60,068 personnel to ensure our citizens can welcome the year 2025 in peace.

COMBATING ILLEGAL MIGRATION

Furthermore, efforts to combat illegal migration, carried out with Mobile Migration Vehicles, will continue uninterrupted during the New Year.

ENTRY TO THESE AREAS HAS BEEN BANNED

As part of the New Year's measures, the entry of heavy-tonnage vehicles such as trucks, semi-trailers, and concrete mixers into the districts of Sarıyer, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Fatih, Bakırköy, Zeytinburnu, and Kadıköy has been prohibited from 08:00 on Tuesday, 31.12.2024, until 08:00 on Wednesday, 01.01.2025.

On the other hand, on Tuesday, December 31;

⦁ Food inspections by our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams to ensure the food safety of our citizens,

⦁ 112 and Provincial Health Directorate teams to ensure our citizens receive health services as quickly as possible,

⦁ Provincial Directorate of Trade teams to prevent potential grievances our citizens may experience due to exorbitant prices,

⦁ Inspection teams regarding unregistered stays in daily rental homes and hotels,

⦁ Relevant support service teams for potential telephone, internet, and natural gas malfunctions,

⦁ Fire Department, Municipal Police, and AFAD teams will be on duty to intervene in any negative situation that may occur.

As part of the New Year's measures;

ISTANBUL POLICE DEPARTMENT - At 1016 points - 10,498 total units (8731 patrol units + 1767 traffic units) - 4 Helicopters, - 7 Detector dogs, - 10 Marine boats, - With 55,225 personnel,

PROVINCIAL GENDARMERIE COMMAND ⦁ With 713 teams, 724 vehicles, 4,530 personnel, COAST GUARD COMMAND ⦁ Will serve the people of Istanbul with 33 units at 25 points and 313 personnel.

Leading to Beyoğlu/Istiklal Avenue: 16 Avenues/12 Streets (As of 14:00) In Şişli District: 3 Avenues/4 Streets; (As of 14:00) In Beşiktaş District: 1 Avenue/3 Streets (As of 14:00) will be closed to vehicle traffic.

BEYOĞLU DISTRICT (CLOSURE TIME: 14:00)

⦁ Istiklal Avenue and all avenues and streets leading to this avenue will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Takı Zafer Avenue will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Sıraselviler Avenue will be closed to traffic in the direction of Taksim Square from the intersection with Hocazade Street.

⦁ Asmalı Mescit Avenue will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Dünya Sağlık Street will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Osmanlı Street will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Entrances to Zambak Street, Atıf Yılmaz Avenue (Sakızağacı Taxi Stand), and Balo Street on Tarlabaşı Boulevard will be closed to traffic.

⦁ The direction from Yeni Çarşı Avenue, Turnacıbaşı Avenue, Meşelik Street, and Sadri Alışık Street towards Istiklal Avenue will be closed.

⦁ Aslan Yatağı Street and Kazancı Slope leading to Sıraselviler Avenue will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Hamalbaşı Avenue will be closed to traffic starting from the intersection with Ömer Hayyam Avenue.

⦁ The direction of Hamalbaşı Avenue starting from the intersection with Meşrutiyet Avenue and Karayel Street will be closed to traffic.

⦁ İlk Belediye Avenue will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Ensiz Street will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Kumbaracı Slope will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Postacılar Street will be closed to traffic.

⦁ Yeniçarşı Avenue will be closed to traffic starting from the intersection with Hayriye Avenue.
