Sexual assault against a female student at a KYK dormitory in Kilis!

On November 1, at the 750-capacity KYK girls' dormitory located in the center of Kilis, a female student working part-time in the dormitory's kitchen section was allegedly sexually harassed by the kitchen supervisor when she descended to the ground floor by elevator.

Following the incident, when the student, I.Ö., began to scream, the suspect, M.K., defended himself by saying, "I didn't do it on purpose, my hand just brushed against you." The student then left the dormitory.

STUDENTS PROTESTED

While M.K., who was detained following the incident, was arrested, students gathered in the dormitory courtyard to protest the event. The students chanted slogans such as, "Kilis, don't sleep, look after your sister."

GOVERNOR ŞAHİN: I AM ON YOUR SIDE

Kilis Governor Tahir Şahin, who arrived at the dormitory where the incident took place, tried to calm the protesting students, saying, "I am on your side; the perpetrators will certainly not go unpunished. It is very cold outside, please go inside, you will get sick, study for your exams. The detained suspect has been arrested. Trust me, we will follow up on this incident," he said.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

In a statement issued by the Kilis Governor's Office regarding the matter, it was stated, "On 01.11.2024, our young student I.Ö., who works in the cafeteria of our Kilis 750-capacity KYK Girls' Dormitory and is a student at Kilis 7 Aralık University, was subjected to sexual harassment by the suspect M.K., who is employed at the same dormitory. The suspect was taken into custody on 02.11.2024 to be referred to judicial authorities and was arrested by the court and sent to prison."

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
