Silivri is overflowing: New details emerge from the prison! Inmates are sleeping in the kitchen

The conditions faced by Çağlar Türkmen, the bodyguard of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of an investigation into the IMM, at Marmara Prison in Silivri have become a topic of discussion.

According to a report by the Cumhuriyet newspaper, it has emerged that although the ward where Türkmen is being held has a capacity of 35, he is staying there with more than 50 other detainees.

Due to the overcrowding in the prison, it was stated that some detainees are forced to sleep on the floor and even in the kitchen. It was also alleged that there are serious restrictions on access to newspapers and that the inmates' right to information is being obstructed.

NO WORK, NO SALARY: FINANCIAL HARDSHIP DURING DETENTION

It was learned that Çağlar Türkmen, who declared his monthly income as 55 thousand TL in his police statement, does not receive a salary during his detention because he is not on the civil servant payroll. This situation is considered a factor that directly affects his family's livelihood.

Following Türkmen, Mustafa Akın, the head of security who served alongside İmamoğlu for many years, was also arrested in the fourth wave of the investigation conducted on May 27. During a search of Akın's home, 48 bullets belonging to his licensed service pistol were found in a safe.

Pro-government media outlets claimed that a large amount of foreign currency was found in the safe and released footage. However, it was quickly understood that the footage in question did not belong to the incident and that stock videos were used.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted harshly to this situation in a statement he made on the 100th day of Ekrem İmamoğlu's detention. “There are only bullets in the search report. When we said no money was found, they said, ‘We didn’t have the footage, we used it from stock.’ I am calling out to those who spread this footage and those who ordered it to be spread: Wait until the election!” he said.
