Striking phone records emerge in Narin Güran murder case: Salim Güran's conversations draw attention

Phone records of uncle Salim Güran, who is being tried with a request for an aggravated life sentence in the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was killed in Diyarbakır, have emerged.

While the uncle's anxiety is reflected in his words in the records, it was observed that Güran attempted to mislead the authorities from the very first day.

According to the report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü, the voice recording of Salim Güran, who is under arrest in connection with the Narin Güran murder and was the village headman at the time, reveals many things.

It was noted that he repeatedly used the words “the canal and the Gypsies kidnapped her” in his Turkish and Kurdish phone conversations with both the gendarmerie commander and the villagers.

In his conversations with 70 different people, recorded via a program he downloaded to his phone, it was seen that Güran stated that Narin might have either fallen into the water and drowned or been kidnapped by two Gypsy women who came to the village.

'COMMANDER, MY BROTHER'S DAUGHTER IS MISSING'

In these conversations, his daughter first calls Salim Güran and says, “Father, they say Narin is missing.”

Salim Güran asks, “How is she missing?”

He then calls the station commander and says, “Peace be upon you, commander. Sorry for bothering you, commander. I am currently in the field. The children called me. My brother's daughter is missing. The villagers have all risen and are searching, they cannot find the girl.”

When the commander asks, “How old is she?”, Salim asks his own daughter how old Narin is, and after learning, he replies, “She is 8 years old, commander.”

'I HAVE NO INFORMATION'

When the commander asks, “When did she go missing?”, the uncle says, “Well, no one has seen her since the afternoon. I mean, the whole village is up, they are searching but they can't find her. I said let me call my commander and inform him. They just called me, and I came from the field.”

To the commander's question, “Who saw her last?”, he says, “My brother's two daughters were coming together. One went home, the other supposedly went home but didn't. I have no information.”

The commander says, “Good heavens, check the barns and such, where would she go? Okay, let us take a look.”

Uncle Salim Güran replies, “I swear I don't know, commander, we are also scared, we are searching. The whole village is up. May God be pleased with you, thank you.”

The commander says, “Check the barns and such too.”

Salim Güran replies, “We are looking everywhere, commander, we are looking in the gardens, we are looking in the barns. We are not stopping, we are searching, commander, we are searching everywhere.”

When the commander asks, “Alright then. What was the child's name?”, Salim Güran replies, “Narin.”

To the commander's question, “What was her surname?”, he replies “Güran” and then closes the phone by saying, “Thank you, commander.”

'DID SHE FALL INTO THE WATER PERHAPS?'

Then, to one of the villagers he speaks to in Kurdish, he says, “Do you have the key to the school? Bring it, let's check the school. The gendarmes will look at the camera footage. We have been searching for an hour, the girl is missing. They told us late, they told us around 4:30-5:00. They say the girl is missing, I'm coming, let's search at least.”

To the person's question, “Where will we search?”, he replies, “We will search in the village.”

Then, speaking in Kurdish with another relative, Salim Güran says, “I just called the station commander and told him, they will come in a bit too. I mean, where could this girl go, she's missing. I swear we are all looking, we are searching. They saw her around 3 o'clock near Eno's house, but I don't know, I hope she didn't fall into this water or something. Isn't there a railing or something by the bridge, if only we had checked there.”

POINTING TO NEVZAT BAHTİYAR'S VEHICLE

Speaking to the commander again, Salim Güran says, “May God be pleased with you, commander. I swear it is my brother's daughter, she is missing, she is 8 years old. They last saw her in the village at 3:00-3:30. At that moment, two people also saw the Gypsies' car. They saw an old red car, we are suspicious of that. (The vehicle in which Nevzat Bahtiyar buried Narin in the stream was also a red, old-model vehicle) Okay commander, come to where my house is. Come from the mosque to where my house is.”

'TWO GYPSY WOMEN CAME'

In another conversation, Salim Güran answers the phone by saying, “Yes, commander.”

Upon the commander asking, “The soldiers are coming in 10-15 minutes. Is there any development?”, he replies, “No, I swear, commander, we are searching, we can't find her. They asked for her photo, I sent it.”

The commander asks if there is a security camera in the village.

Salim says, “The school has a camera. Let the friends come, let's look together. She was already seen there last.”

Upon the commander asking if there are any strangers in the village and if anyone has seen them, Salim Güran says, “There are strangers, commander. There are two Gypsy women. I swear they would take her, commander. She already went to the school area last. We are looking everywhere, commander, the whole village has gathered. May God be pleased with you, commander, thank you very much.”

HE CONSTANTLY GIVES DIFFERENT TIMES

To Salim Güran, whom the villagers ask about Narin's fate, he replies, “No, I swear she is missing. We are still searching. Let the soldiers come, I am waiting for them, we will look at the school cameras. She went missing in the village, she hasn't been around since 3:30-4:00. You come too, let's take a look. Let's search all the houses, this child is 8 years old. Where could she go? There is no place left that we haven't looked. The whole village is up and she is still not there. They say two Gypsy women were seen near the bridge, we are suspicious of them. Or she might have fallen into the canal, we are suspicious of that. I sent the village youth. I said break those doors and look everywhere.”

Then he gives instructions to other people he calls to look at the sewing and embroidery course, houses, under the trees, and everywhere.

'IT IS AS IF THE EARTH OPENED UP AND SWALLOWED THIS GIRL'

To another villager who calls him, he says, “I swear it is as if the earth opened up and swallowed this girl. She is missing.”

To the villager who asks, “Has no one seen her?”, he says, “There are those who saw her, she went to the grocery store. Then she came back, they saw her near the school, but she is not there, she is just not there. There is no place left that we haven't looked, but she is not there. She is not small either, I mean, where would a 7-8-year-old child go?”

In another call, he replies, “Go and check the canal, check the canal. (Referring to the DSI irrigation canal) AFAD has also arrived now. They will go and check the canal. The gendarmerie, AFAD, village guards, the whole village, everyone is up but the girl is not there. She is a smart girl, I mean, I don't understand where she could go. Now they have brought the dogs too. A search is being conducted everywhere with thermal devices. There is no place left that hasn't been checked. The station is taking care of it.”

He states that Narin Güran went missing around 3:30-4:00, and tells different people who call that she was seen until 17:00-17:30.

'EITHER SHE FELL INTO THE CANAL OR SHE WAS KIDNAPPED'

To the person who calls him and asks, “Could she have been kidnapped?”, Salim Güran replies, “I swear the entrances and exits of the village have been blocked. Vehicles, license plates, the state is focusing on it. They have spread everywhere, the commandos say we are looking everywhere, but I don't know how they are looking. Maybe they have their own methods, I don't know. My house, her own house, Fuat's house, and there are the gardens. Where else could she go? Otherwise, she either fell into the canal or was kidnapped, nothing else comes to my mind. They say one possibility is that she might have fallen asleep somewhere.”

HE SPEAKS TO THE OFFICIAL CALLING FROM DSI

Upon the report that Narin might have fallen into the irrigation canal belonging to the State Hydraulic Works (DSI) near the village, Salim Güran says to the DSI official who calls him and asks, “On what basis are you suspicious that she fell into the canal?”, “Since our house is close to the canal, there are already two suspicions. One is the canal, and the other is kidnapping.”

Upon the official saying, “If she had fallen into the canal, she would have come out, brother”, he asks this time, “Could she have fallen into the irrigation canal and gotten stuck under the grate?”

The official asks for Narin's age.

Uncle Salim says, “She is an 8-9-year-old girl. Either the force of the water or the Gypsies kidnapped her.” The official says, “I cannot cut the water on my own initiative now. If the prosecutor's office writes a letter, I will cut the water immediately.”

Salim says, “Let's see, let's get together with AFAD, we'll talk.”

'IF THEY HAVE A CLUE THEY ARE SUSPICIOUS OF, THEY SHOULD TELL US TOO'

In a conversation with another person who calls him, Salim Güran, referring to the AFAD and gendarmerie personnel, says, “Your village guards have also come, everyone is searching. However, if they know something, they should tell us too. If there is a suspicion or a situation they are suspicious of, we should also be informed. If they found a clue, I should also be aware of it. The captain, the company commander is personally participating in the searches,” wondering if the family is suspected.

'WHAT BUSINESS DOES SHE HAVE IN THE CORN FIELD?'

Angered by the villagers saying, “Did you check the corn field? Let us check there too”, Salim Güran replies, “Man, what business would the child have in the corn field, for God's sake. I don't believe at all that she went there. If you are going, go, but I don't believe it. It is impossible for her to go there. I have also come to the canal on the bridge now. The gendarmes are here. They are checking the canal.”

HE HAD SAID HE DELETED THE RECORDS

Salim Güran had said both in his statement while in custody and in court that “he deleted the phone records because he was talking to escorts.”

On the other hand, the footage Salim Güran recorded on the day Narin went missing has entered the case file.
