Syria's new Foreign Minister turns out to be a student in Turkey: 'Now we know why he hasn't been to class for two weeks... Hope he doesn't fail his finals'
Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, Esaad Hasan al-Shibani, who was pursuing his master's and doctoral degrees in Turkey, has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister in the newly formed administration. A humorous post by a social media user has since gone viral.
Following Bashar al-Assad's departure from office in Syria, the new administration has begun its work rapidly. In this context, 37-year-old Esaad Hasan al-Shaibani has been appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
STUDIED IN TURKEY
Born in the Al-Hasakah governorate, al-Shaibani graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature at Damascus University in 2009.
Later, al-Shaibani came to Turkey, where he completed a master's degree in political science and international relations at Sabahattin Zaim University and began his doctoral studies in the same field.
DOCTORAL ADVISOR SHARED ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The news of al-Shaibani's appointment was shared through a humorous social media post by his doctoral advisor, Hasan Aksakal. Aksakal stated, "I just learned that my doctoral student, Esaad Hasan, has become the new Foreign Minister of Syria. I had been asking his classmates why he hadn't been coming to class for two weeks. Now he has an excuse; I hope he doesn't fail his finals by saying he can't make it."
MASTER'S THESIS DREW ATTENTION
Completing his master's degree in 2022, al-Shaibani addressed the topic of "The Impact of the Arab Uprisings on Turkish Foreign Policy Toward Syria Between 2010-2020" in his thesis.
