Testimony of police officer who shot and killed architect Turgut Toydemir revealed

Police officer S.Ç. has been arrested for shooting and killing 86-year-old architect Turgut Toydemir, one of Turkey's oldest living active architects, during a traffic dispute in Beykoz, Istanbul.

It was learned that the police officer stated in his testimony that he opened fire because Toydemir did not yield to an ambulance, was weaving through traffic, and did not stop.

The police procedures for S.Ç., who was detained on charges of causing the death of architect Turgut Toydemir due to a traffic-related dispute, have been completed.

S.Ç. was referred to the Beykoz Courthouse, where his statement was taken by the prosecutor's office.

STATEMENT REVEALED

It was learned that S.Ç. stated in his testimony that "he opened fire because the victim did not yield to an ambulance in the traffic moving toward and after the bridge, was weaving through traffic with his vehicle, and did not stop." Following his statement to the prosecutor, police officer S.Ç. was referred to the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace and was arrested on charges of "intentional killing."

FUNERAL TO BE HELD TOMORROW

On the other hand, it was learned that architect Toydemir's funeral will be laid to rest tomorrow following the funeral prayer to be held at the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent.

WHO IS TURGUT TOYDEMİR?

Turgut Toydemir was born in Istanbul on July 13, 1938. Toydemir, who spent his childhood years in Fatih, graduated from Vefa High School in 1957. In 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University.

After embarking on his architectural career, Toydemir completed his master's degree in 1969 at the Istanbul State Academy of Architecture and Engineering, the faculty that operates today as Yıldız Technical University.
