The process leading to the collapse of the Assad regime: Here is what has happened in Syria since November 27... (What happened in Syria?)

The uprising, which began on March 15, 2011, when a group of students in Daraa, southern Syria, wrote on their school wall, "Oh doctor (Bashar al-Assad), now it is your turn," ended the 61-year rule of the Baath Party on the morning of December 8, 2024, as opposition forces took control of Damascus.

Armed groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) began clashing with Assad's forces in the western countryside of Aleppo on the morning of November 27.

The jihadist groups first established control in Aleppo. Then, in a short time, they captured Idlib, Hama, and Homs.

HTS, which had been advancing against the Assad regime since November 27, entered the capital, Damascus, today (December 8).

ASSAD HAS LEFT DAMASCUS

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has left Damascus, which has been taken over by the opposition. 

While international media outlets have reported various claims regarding Assad's departure from the country, unconfirmed information has been shared suggesting he may have gone to Russia or certain Middle Eastern countries.

IS ASSAD DEAD?

Finally, flight tracking websites on the internet claimed that a plane, which was last seen west of Homs after taking off from the airport in Damascus but then disappeared from tracking, was carrying Bashar al-Assad.

Claims were made that the plane in question descended to an altitude of 1,600 feet and performed "unusual maneuvers" before disappearing from radar.

Sources speaking to Reuters reported that the plane that disappeared from radar likely crashed. 

WHAT HAPPENED IN SYRIA?

So, what has happened in Syria since November 27? Here is the process leading to the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria...

NOVEMBER 27

In Syria, the anti-regime Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched a large-scale operation in the western countryside of Aleppo. Other groups also joined HTS, which moved from Quptan al-Jabal.

NOVEMBER 28

Anti-regime armed groups seized heavy weapons and military vehicles belonging to the Bashar al-Assad regime in the areas they took control of. Many regime soldiers were killed in the clashes, and dozens were taken prisoner.

Anti-regime groups captured the villages of Trimbe, Dadih, Keferbattih, Jubas, Shabur, and Mardih, which were under the control of the Assad regime.

Anti-Assad regime armed groups established dominance in many neighborhoods in Aleppo and captured most of the city.

Aleppo International Airport was handed over to the PKK by the Assad regime during the day, but in the evening, anti-regime armed groups, which clashed with the PKK/YPG, took control of the airport.

Anti-regime groups took control of the strategically important towns of Maarrat al-Nu'man, Khan Shaykhun, and Cercenaz in Idlib.

Anti-regime groups took control of the Manbij-Aleppo road and the M4 highway.

DECEMBER 1

The Syrian National Army (SNA) launched Operation Dawn of Freedom against the PKK/YPG's plan to create a terror corridor between Tel Rifaat and northeastern Syria.
