Turkey celebrates with the enthusiasm of April 23
The April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across Turkey. Today, this meaningful day, which marks both the 105th anniversary of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and the world's first and only children's holiday, is being observed in a festive atmosphere with events held throughout the country.
Celebrations began in the morning with official ceremonies. State officials, political leaders, and thousands of citizens attended the ceremony held at Anıtkabir.
Children took the stage in events held at schools and in public squares. Folk dance performances, poetry recitals, dance shows, and marching band displays brought the festive excitement to its peak.
Ceremonies in major cities, in particular, saw high participation. Cortege marches held in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir were the scene of colorful images.
INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION
The fact that April 23 is a children's holiday once again served as a reason for children from all over the world to come to Turkey this year. Guest children from different countries presented performances reflecting their own cultures and, together with Turkish children, delivered messages of peace and friendship.
STREETS AND HOMES DECORATED WITH FLAGS
Across the country, balconies of homes and streets were decorated with Turkish flags and posters of Atatürk. Citizens flocked to the squares to participate in events organized specifically for the holiday.
The costumes prepared by the children and the balloons in their hands reflected the joy of the holiday.
The festive excitement will continue throughout the day with various events. Children's festivals organized by municipalities, outdoor concerts, and representative parliamentary sessions will once again reinforce the meaning and importance of April 23.
