Turkey initiates a new era in Syria: Claims that 'YPG will lay down arms'

Following the fall of the Assad regime, the path the YPG will follow in the region is being debated. Mazlum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been calling for reconciliation for some time. It had been claimed that Turkey was preparing for an operation.

Abdulkadir Selvi from Hürriyet wrote that Turkey is working on a plan. Stating that a transitional government will take office in Syria on March 1, Selvi noted that a plan has been prepared for the YPG to lay down its arms.

1- A transitional government will be established in March.

2- The transitional government will call on all armed groups in Syria to lay down their arms.

3- A monitoring and inspection mechanism will be established during the process of laying down arms.

4- Non-Syrian members within the PKK-YPG will leave the country.

5- The command echelon of the PKK-YPG will leave Syria.

6- PKK-YPG members who lay down their arms will join the Syrian army.

Two points here may have caught your attention.

The PKK-YPG will lay down its arms. They will join the Syrian army. So, what will happen to the region controlled by the PKK-YPG?

Mazlum Kobani wants this region to be under US supervision. Being under US control means the PKK will continue its existence. This is the plan of the US and the PKK-YPG. The plan of Turkey and the new Syrian administration, however, is different. This area will be under the control of the Syrian administration and Turkey. If these regions are left under the control of the PKK-YPG, wouldn't the other armed groups then rise up?"
