As Turkey's beloved artist Edip Akbayram passed away due to multiple organ failure, his death has plunged the entire country into mourning.

BORN IN GAZIANTEP IN 1950

Edip Akbayram was born on December 29, 1950, in Gaziantep. He contracted polio when he was just 9 months old. He graduated from Gaziantep Şahinbey Atatürk High School and formed his own orchestra.

He finished high school in 1968 and came to Istanbul. In the orchestra they formed in high school, they played and sang compositions they made based on the sayings of Pir Sultan Abdal and Karacaoğlan. He also made his first record during his high school years:

"Kendim ettim kendim buldum" (I did it to myself, I found it myself)

The name of the group with which he released his first record was Siyah Örümcekler (Black Spiders). The record was released in two different pressings under the titles "Siyah Örümcekler-Gaziantep Orkestrası" and "Edip Akbayram ve Siyah Örümcekler".

BROKE SALES RECORDS WITH ALDIRMA GÖNÜL

In 1972, he gained nationwide fame with the Golden Microphone competition, which the Günaydın newspaper began organizing again, with his first composition "Kükredi Çimenler", inspired by a poem by Aşık Veysel.

The artist, who broke sales records and won gold records with his songs "Aldırma Gönül" and "Eşkiya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz", has around 250 awards given by various organizations.

He founded the Dostlar Orchestra in 1974 and became one of the leading names in Anatolian rock music. Between 1981 and 1988, his compositions were banned from being played on TRT.

RELEASED HIS LAST ALBUM IN 2012

The album 'Türküler Yanmaz' (Songs Do Not Burn), which he released in 1994, opened a new page in Edip Akbayram's career. The master artist dedicated the songs on his album to those who lost their lives in the Sivas massacre. He brought his albums 'Güzel Günler Göreceğiz' (We Will See Beautiful Days) in 1996, 'Yıllar' (Years) in 1997, 'Dün ve Bugün' (Yesterday and Today) in 1998, and 'İlk Günkü Gibi' (Like the First Day) in 1999 to music lovers. Edip Akbayram's last album, which he named 'Mayıs' (May), was released in 2012.
