Two parties leave their mark on the latest poll: Who do citizens want to see as President?

While the opposition's calls for early elections continue, the results of the "Turkey Political Agenda Survey – April 2025" conducted by AREA Research have been revealed. While a detail regarding two parties in the poll drew attention, citizens were also asked who they would like to see as President.

The results of the poll conducted by AREA Research, shared by Nefes columnist Aytunç Erkin, are as follows:

When the research results are evaluated based on valid votes, the CHP is the leading party with 35 percent.

The AKP is seen in second place with 30.6 percent.

DEM Party 8.6 percent

MHP 7.6 percent

The IYI Party remains outside of parliament with 6.6 percent.

It is noteworthy that the Zafer Party is on the rise with 4.2 percent, following the impact of Ümit Özdağ's arrest.

The rate of undecided voters among the total electorate is 19 percent.

Stating that AREA Research also conducted a study regarding the presidential elections, Aytunç Erkin shared the details as follows:

In the event that Ekrem İmamoğlu cannot be a candidate due to a political ban or the cancellation of his diploma, the first name that comes to mind as the CHP's presidential candidate is Mansur Yavaş with 42.3 percent. While the rate of those saying Özgür Özel is 11.4 percent, the rate of those who did not express an opinion is 40 percent.

At this point, CHP voters expressed their preference as 59.4 percent for Mansur Yavaş, 13.4 percent for Özgür Özel, and 24 percent as "I have no opinion."

Again, the following answer was given to the question, "What would your voting behavior be if the mentioned names were presidential candidates?": Mansur Yavaş 53.4 percent, Ekrem İmamoğlu 47.8 percent, Tayyip Erdoğan 35.6 percent, Özgür Özel 34 percent.

The following question in the poll is striking and important: "Can the mentioned names win if they are presidential candidates?"

Mansur Yavaş 55.8 percent, Ekrem İmamoğlu 55.5 percent, Tayyip Erdoğan 42.7 percent, Özgür Özel 29.7 percent

The rate of those who state that there should be an early election is 54.5 percent, while the rate of those who do not see an early election as necessary is 41.4 percent. What is striking here is that nearly a quarter of MHP voters say "Yes" to an early election (23.4 percent).

The rate of those who believe that the signature campaign initiated by the CHP with the demand for an early election will be effective is 38.2 percent, while the rate of those who do not believe it is 55 percent. Nearly a fifth of CHP voters (19.4 percent) do not think the signature campaign will be effective.

The rate of those who state that Turkey's administrative system should be the Presidential Government System is 37.7 percent, while the rate of those who state it should be the Parliamentary System is 54.5 percent. Similar to the results above, the rate of those who find the Presidential Government System "Successful" is 36.4 percent, and the rate of those who find it "Unsuccessful" is 58.9 percent.

Voters state that they do not trust the Turkish judicial system/courts. While the rate of those who state they "Trust" is 22.5 percent, the rate of those who state they "Do not trust" is 70.1 percent.

Within the scope of the "Terror-Free Turkey" process; the rate of those who view the meetings held with Abdullah Öcalan and the DEM Party as "Positive" is 33.6 percent, while the rate of those who view them as "Negative" is 56.4 percent. The rate of Turkish nationalists who find the process "Positive" is 35 percent, and the rate of DEM Party supporters who find it "Negative" is 18 percent.

The voter's stance on the Abdullah Öcalan issue is quite clear. While the rate of those who state they would view the release of Abdullah Öcalan from prison within the scope of the "right to hope" as "Positive" in the event that the PKK is disbanded is 13.2 percent, the rate of those who state they would view it as "Negative" is 78.3 percent. It is also striking that 9.7 percent of Turkish nationalists view the process as "Positive."
