Who is Narin Güran's killer? Suspicious statements from the murder's 'black box' emerge

Nevzat Bahtiyar, whose testimony was taken as a person of interest rather than a suspect two days after the arrest of uncle Salim Güran in connection with the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, stated, “I know Salim, he had no requests from me. He never called me.”

However, when it was revealed through HTS records that he had indeed called him, it was determined that he then stated, “Yes, I remembered, he called me regarding a water outage.”

Bahtiyar, who was detained after the body was found, then said, “Salim killed the girl and gave me the body to dispose of.” Bahtiyar's wife, Gazal Bahtiyar, whose statement was also taken, said, “The Güran family is a vault of secrets.”

Uncle Salim Güran, whose vehicle was found to contain DNA samples belonging to Narin, was arrested on September 2.

When it was revealed that the uncle, whose phone was under investigation, had been in contact with Nevzat Bahtiyar, Bahtiyar's statement was taken as a person of interest on September 4. When the Gendarmerie asked Bahtiyar, “Where were you on August 21, who did you talk to, who did you call on the phone?” he replied, “On the day of the incident, I left my house in Tavşantepe Village and went to Çarıklı in a red vehicle registered to my son for construction work. I did not encounter any suspicious situation while leaving the house. I did not meet with anyone face-to-face. I did not call anyone on the phone other than my brother Mehmet.”

When asked, “You said you did not call anyone other than your brother, but according to HTS records, you called Salim Güran from your registered line on August 21 at 15:08 and had a 42-second conversation,” he replied, “Although I stated earlier that I did not call anyone, I remember now. The person I called is our village headman, Salim Güran. I told the headman that the water was cut off. The headman told me he would call DİSKİ; I never met with him face-to-face. The headman had no requests from me either.”

HE DID NOT REVEAL SECRETS EVEN AFTER UNCLE SALIM WAS ARRESTED

According to the report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü, when asked by the Gendarmerie, “What is your social and economic relationship with Salim Güran?” he said, “He is our village headman. We occasionally play games at the coffeehouse. I don't remember the last time I met him face-to-face, other than phone calls.”

When asked, “What is your knowledge and observation regarding the kidnapping or murder of Narin Güran on August 21?” Bahtiyar said, “I have no knowledge or observation regarding who committed the incident. I did not see Salim Güran on the date of the incident, other than the phone call I mentioned. Perhaps I might have seen him after 21:00 in the evening during the search efforts. However, I did not have a conversation. I finished my work during the day and arrived home around 19:00. I did not encounter any suspicious person or car. I don't know who was using the white vehicle with license plate 47 KF 388 in our village on the day of the incident; I didn't see it. However, the headman uses this vehicle. I learned that Narin was missing from my wife and mother after I got home. I also participated in the searches with the villagers.”

CONFESSION CAME WHEN THE BODY WAS FOUND

Nevzat Bahtiyar, who was seen in his vehicle in the creek bed on the day of the murder on the Gendarmerie's 'Şahin Göz' (Hawk Eye) camera and was detained as a suspect following the discovery of the body on September 8, was forced to confess to his crime. He explained that Narin was killed by Salim Güran and that she was handed over to him for disposal.

SHE CRIED OUT WHILE SHE WAS MISSING: 'AT LEAST LET MY DAUGHTER HAVE A GRAVE'

Nevzat Bahtiyar's wife, Gazal Bahtiyar, in her additional statement taken by the Gendarmerie, when asked, “How and from whom did you learn that Narin went missing on August 21?” said, “It was around 19:00. Yüksel Güran was coming towards our house, beating her knees. She was crying out, 'Whoever took my daughter, bring her back and leave her in a corner, at least let my daughter have a grave.' Right behind Yüksel were her sister-in-law Hediye Güran and her son Enes. There was a crowd behind them. When we asked what happened, they said, 'Narin is missing, we are looking for her.' We joined them and went out to search for Narin. At that time, my husband Nevzat and my son were also coming home.”

When asked, “How was the relationship between your husband and Salim?” Gazal Bahtiyar said, “They both called each other brother. They used to tell us that they were brothers. But Salim stabbed my husband, whom he called brother, in the back.”

THE GÜRAN FAMILY IS A VAULT OF SECRETS

When asked, “Tell us what you know about the Güran family,” Gazal Bahtiyar said, “The family is a vault of secrets. Because of an incident among them, they do not give information to the outside, and if there is an issue, they hide it. After the 2nd day following the day Narin went missing, family members stopped letting outsiders in. That is, when they gathered in their homes, they did not allow anyone to enter. They were telling those who came, 'It is forbidden to come here.' Salim may have also attended these meetings.”

When asked, “When and with what did Nevzat leave the house in the afternoon?” his wife Gazal said, “My husband left the house after talking to Salim on the phone. He told me he would water the trees. But I did not see him watering the trees. Nevzat went towards the direction of the cemetery by car. I was watching from the balcony. But if he went around the bottom of the village and went to Salim's house, there is no possibility for me to see that.”

Gazal Bahtiyar's statement regarding the fact that the men of the Güran family held family council meetings and that outsiders were not allowed into these meetings was also confirmed by camera recordings that had been deleted but were recovered.
