Gelecek Party MP rumored to join AKP breaks silence: 'I will leave the New Path...'

On its 25th anniversary, the AKP transferred a total of 10 names, including 3 MPs and 7 mayors.

By adding 2 MPs from the IYI Party and 1 from the Gelecek Party to its ranks, the AKP's number of seats in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) rose to 280.

On the other hand, it was alleged that Gelecek Party MP Kani Torun would join the AKP.

OFFER TO TORUN FROM AKP

Speaking to journalist İsmail Saymaz, Torun said that he had recently received an offer from the AKP but that joining the AKP as an MP was not on his agenda. Torun stated that he is considering continuing as an independent MP for a while.

HE WILL LEAVE THE NEW PATH

Furthermore, Torun stated that he has decided to leave the New Path Group. Evaluating whether he would remain in the New Path following Ahmet Davutoğlu's departure from the party, Torun said he told the MPs in the group that they should find someone else to replace him.

İsmail Saymaz reported Torun's statements in a post on his X account as follows:

“We spoke with Gelecek Party Bursa MP Kani Torun, who was rumored to be joining the AK Party.

Noting that he recently received an offer from the AK Party, Torun said:

“Joining the AK Party as an MP is not on my agenda. I am thinking of continuing as an independent for a while.”

However, noting that he would leave the New Path, Torun said, “I told my friends in the New Path, ‘Find someone to replace me.’ I do not want to cause the group to fall, but I am thinking of staying after Ahmet Davutoğlu left.”
