General Directorate of Foundations' new building sparks controversy: Harsh parliamentary question from DEVA Party's Kaya
DEVA Party Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya has submitted a parliamentary question to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding the construction of the General Directorate of Foundations' new headquarters on the Eskişehir road. The motion asks Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, "Was it necessary for the General Directorate of Foundations to move to a new location?" and "Were the expenses for the new building covered by the budget of the mazbut (managed) foundations?"
DEVA Party Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya has directed a motion to Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy regarding the new building of the General Directorate of Foundations, currently under construction at the 17th kilometer of the Eskişehir Road, which has raised significant questions in the public eye. Kaya sharply questioned the justification for spending millions of liras on a new project while the existing building is still in use.
"IS THE MODERN BUILDING INSUFFICIENT?"
MP Kaya questioned why a modern, central, 14-story building covering 6,000 square meters was deemed insufficient for staff, and asked what need prompted the construction of a new building in a location outside the city that is difficult to access. Asking, "Despite having a central building, what need brought this change to the agenda?" Kaya demanded that the justification for the expenditures be clarified.
"PUBLIC MONEY IS BEING WASTED"
The motion asks whether the new building was purchased or allocated through usage rights, and demands clear information regarding the amount and source of the expenditures made during this process. Criticizing the financial policies of the General Directorate of Foundations, Kaya asked, "How many million liras were paid for this building? Was a real estate valuation conducted, or have public resources been wasted once again?"
Recalling the relevant articles of the Foundations Law No. 5737, Kaya also questioned the legal basis for these expenditures. Furthermore, pointing to the Presidency's circular on austerity measures for public institutions, he intensified his criticism by stating, "How were these procurement and renovation processes carried out despite the austerity measures? Is the General Directorate of Foundations being kept outside of these rules?"
"WHO WILL ACCOUNT FOR THE EXPENDITURES?"
MP Kaya also brought up whether the expenditures for the new building were covered by the foundation's budget and how this situation aligns with traditional foundation law. Expressing public reaction, Kaya asked, "Who will account for the reckless spending of public and foundation revenues in this manner?"
