Germany calls for humanitarian pause in Gaza

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made statements to journalists before the European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers Meeting held in Brussels.

Stating that the situation in the Middle East would also be discussed at the meeting, Baerbock expressed that everything must be done to better protect the people in Gaza, to deliver food to them, and to secure the release of hostages.

Baerbock emphasized that they would continue to exert pressure on this issue, saying, "Therefore, a humanitarian pause in the fighting is of vital importance."

Pointing out that they also want to prevent the spread of violence in the region, Baerbock emphasized that when looking at the West Bank in particular, it is clear that tensions are steadily rising.

Baerbock remarked, "For this reason, I have stated many times that the attitude of extremist settlers cannot be left without comment."

Drawing attention to the importance of working on sanctions in this regard, Baerbock noted that this is a clear violation of the law and that it must be clearly stated to extremist settlers that the EU will not allow this to go ignored.

Touching upon the Russia-Ukraine War, which has been ongoing for nearly 2 years, Baerbock reiterated that they will stand by Ukraine for as long as the country needs it.

Stating that she is in favor of implementing further sanctions against Russia, Baerbock noted that they are currently in the process of adopting the 13th sanctions package, particularly regarding unmanned aerial vehicles, and that a decision on this matter will be taken soon.
