Giresun Governor's Office bans alcohol consumption on beaches, in picnic areas, and in parked vehicles
The Giresun Governor's Office has imposed a ban on alcohol consumption in public spaces. The scope and details of the ban were announced on social media.
The Giresun Governor's Office announced via its social media account that a ban on alcohol consumption in public spaces will be implemented in the city. The decision prohibits the consumption of alcohol on beaches, in picnic areas, and inside vehicles.
The decision, announced on the official social media account, is as follows:
“PURPOSE: This decision has been taken within the borders of Giresun province for the purposes of public safety, public order, the protection of general health, and the prevention of crime.
SCOPE: This decision covers the procedures and principles regarding the prevention of individuals consuming alcohol in public or in a manner that disturbs the environment within the borders of Giresun province, as well as the measures to be taken against those who encourage or promote the use of these products and the sanctions to be applied to those who do not comply with these measures.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES: Within the scope of measures taken to prevent the promotion of alcohol and derivative substances by those who disturb the peace and tranquility of citizens by consuming alcohol in places open to public use within the borders of Giresun province where no licensing for alcohol consumption has been issued by authorized bodies;
a) On the coastline of Giresun province, on beaches and rocks, along the Aksu Creek, Batlama Creek, Büyük Güre Creek, and Küçük Güre Creek,
b) In parks, children's playgrounds, public gardens, and open areas without facilities,
c) In squares, avenues, streets, and under viaducts, in lay-bys, inside and around the castle,
d) In picnic and recreation areas, at fountains located within residential areas, as well as at historical and cultural sites and cemeteries,
e) In educational buildings of all levels and types, training centers, student dormitories, and public buildings, as well as in the gardens of these buildings,
f) In places of worship, their annexes, and their gardens,
g) In abandoned structures and buildings under construction,
h) In bus stations and terminals, in underpasses or overpasses,
i) Along highways, roads, and neighborhood roads,
j) Inside and on top of all kinds of motorized transport vehicles while in motion or parked,
It is prohibited to consume alcoholic beverages in public and in a manner that disturbs the environment.”
THE ISTANBUL GOVERNOR'S OFFICE HAD ALSO ISSUED A BAN
In 2023, the Istanbul Governor's Office had banned the consumption of alcohol in public areas other than “establishments licensed for the sale and consumption of alcohol.”
The decision was met with backlash from citizens.
