Gökhan Günaydın explains: How CHP won the local elections

Explaining the reasons behind the success of the CHP, which emerged as the leading party in the local elections, Günaydın described 'change' as one of the fundamental reasons for this success.

Günaydın spoke as follows:

"There has been a 22-year AKP government, and for 22 years, the AKP has almost always won. Unfortunately, we lost the 2023 general elections. We fell behind in both the presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14 and 28. This created a huge disappointment.

And in less than a year, the Republican People's Party became the leading party in Turkey in the local elections. It was not easy to convince the citizens of this.

Undoubtedly, there was always hope and expectation among the people, especially within Turkey's democratic, progressive base. But beyond that, there was also a search among the millions who saw that Turkey was not being governed well, including citizens who had voted for the AKP and the MHP.

Of course, a process of change also took place within the Republican People's Party. In this context, there were also question marks about whether the losing party would return to the position of a winning party.

DREW ATTENTION TO THE IMPORTANCE OF ACCURATE RESEARCH

So, did we only talk based on this hope? No, we measured it. That is, political science commissions research, and these studies are not simply polls. By looking at sub-breakdowns, you see how citizens—those who vote for the CHP, the AKP, and the MHP—think differently on the same issue and where they converge, and you begin to weave a set of policies from these points. I think this is valuable. Furthermore, you conduct reliable research. We always conducted our research for ourselves. Not research that shows the CHP as being ahead. Show whatever the CHP is!

"WE WILL WIN BY A WIDE MARGIN"

I said this; for example, we will win the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by a wide margin.

I said we would retain all 14 of our district municipalities and add 10 more to them."
