Gökhan Günaydın poses 8 questions to Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya regarding the fund investigation: 'AKP elites in the fund robbery'
New Party Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın has brought to the agenda allegations of high-value investments and withdrawals involving AKP member Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, as part of the investigation into stock market and investment funds. Questioning the source of Kaya's 163 million lira share purchase and the 1.3 billion lira withdrawal allegedly made before the trading ban, Günaydın also directed questions to the Capital Markets Board (SPK) for them to answer.
Developments in the investigation into stock market and investment funds have brought political debates along with them. New Party Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın, in a statement on his social media account, listed allegations regarding the investment transactions of AKP İstanbul MP Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya.
In his post titled "AKP elites in the fund robbery," Günaydın raised the allegation that Kaya purchased 250,000 Özata shares in April 2026 and invested 163 million lira for this purchase. While questioning the timing of the share purchases and the source of the investment's financing, Günaydın also drew attention to the allegation that a large amount of money was withdrawn before the trading ban on the funds.
Kaya and her husband's share transactions are on the agenda
Günaydın's statement came after discussions regarding the transactions allegedly made by Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her husband, İlyas Kaya, in Özata Denizcilik shares.
NEW Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre also claimed in a statement on September 26 that Kaya purchased 250,000 shares of Özata Denizcilik on April 8, 2026, paid 63 million 359 thousand lira for this transaction, and withdrew 1 billion 344 million lira by selling her shares in September.
Emre alleged that Kaya's husband, İlyas Kaya, also purchased 150,000 of the same shares, invested 99 million 687 thousand lira, and withdrew 826 million lira after the sale. Thus, it was claimed that the couple withdrew approximately 2.17 billion lira in return for an investment exceeding a total of 163 million lira.
The timing of these transactions also became a subject of debate. According to the allegations, while the share purchases were made in April, the sales were carried out in September, when the fund investigation came to the agenda and the SPK imposed trading restrictions.
SPK puts 130 funds into liquidation process
Developments in the fund investigation directly affected a large number of investors. On September 17, 2026, the Capital Markets Board decided to liquidate 130 funds managed by seven portfolio management companies that were traded on TEFAS.
It was announced that the total size of the funds under liquidation reached approximately 826 billion lira, and the number of investors exceeded 514,000.
In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the financial transactions of fund managers were placed under scrutiny. Reports published on September 20 stated that a new investigation into the money movements of fund managers and their relatives had been requested from MASAK.
Statement also came from Şamil Tayyar
The allegations regarding Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her husband were also brought to the agenda from within the AKP. Former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar stated in a statement on September 26 that if the allegations were true, Kaya should resign.
Tayyar also reminded that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested the identification of transaction and balance information of investors who exited the funds in July, August, and September.
Günaydın: "We are following up on behalf of the citizens"
In his post, Gökhan Günaydın brought up not only the share purchases and sales but also the positions of the Sayan family in public office.
Recalling the 85,000 dollar scholarship Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya allegedly received while working at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) in the past and her education abroad, Günaydın demanded an explanation for the source of the 163 million lira investment.
Drawing attention to the fact that different members of the Sayan family hold public offices, Günaydın brought up the debate on equal opportunity in accessing public office.
Questioning the SPK's supervisory responsibility in his statement, Günaydın asked whether expert reports were evaluated and who would be held accountable for the losses allegedly suffered by investors.
At the end of his post, Günaydın stated that they would follow the transactions and those responsible mentioned in the fund investigation, using the phrases, "We are following up on behalf of the citizens, we will not let you get away with this."
