A Google spokesperson speaking to The Hill stated that hundreds of employees working on Google Assistant and hundreds of others in Google's knowledge and information product teams were laid off last week. However, the spokesperson declined to provide an exact figure.
The same spokesperson stated in an announcement made last week that several hundred more employees from Google's digital services and product areas were laid off, and that several hundred positions in the central engineering team would also be eliminated.
