Governor's Office shares IBAN for families of police officers martyred in Yalova
A fundraising campaign launched for the families of three police officers who were martyred during a counter-terrorism operation in Yalova before New Year's has been announced by the Governor's Office through the sharing of an IBAN. This practice has sparked mixed reactions in society.
On December 29, security forces carried out large-scale operations in Yalova due to attack attempts planned by the terrorist organization ISIS. Three police officers lost their lives in a clash that broke out during an intervention at an address where suspects were located.
Following the incident, developments that caused widespread repercussions in the public occurred, and Yalova Governor Hülya Kaya was reassigned to the central administration by the Decree on Governors. Bingöl Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta was appointed to replace Kaya.
IBAN INFORMATION PROVIDED
The Yalova Governor's Office, under its new administration, launched a fundraising campaign to provide financial support to the families of martyred police officers İlker Pehlivan, Yasin Koçyiğit, and Turgut Külünk. As part of the campaign, IBAN information was shared with the public, and donations were requested from citizens.
The campaign sparked a major debate on social media. Criticisms were as notable as messages of support. Many users criticized the practice, stating that the state should provide full support to the families of martyrs, with comments such as, "Are you sharing an IBAN with the public again? Can our state not fully take care of the families of our martyrs?"
The official letter regarding the aid stated that, with the approval of the Yalova Governor's Office and within the framework of the Law on Collection of Aid No. 2860, support would be collected nationwide for a period of three months, and that the campaign in question would be conducted with legal permits. A responsible committee has also been established for the distribution and management of the collected funds.
