Rezan Epözdemir, whose detention period was extended, reveals the name who filed a complaint against him: 'Immoral slanderer'

Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir stated, "An individual named Zihni Çakır went to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on 06.08.2025 and filed a criminal complaint against me with allegations of aiding the FETÖ Terrorist Organization and espionage, and the basis for one of the investigations at hand is the statements of this immoral slanderer."

Following the extension of his detention, Epözdemir used the following expressions in a post on his social media account:

"An individual named Zihni Çakır went to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on 06.08.2025 and filed a criminal complaint against me with allegations of aiding the FETÖ Terrorist Organization and espionage, and the basis for one of the investigations at hand is the statements of this immoral slanderer.

"HE SHOULD NOT BE WALKING AROUND IN SOCIETY"

Zihni Çakır, as can be seen by everyone from open sources, testified in favor of FETÖ as a secret witness in the conspiracy cases such as Ergenekon and Balyoz, which FETÖ carried out with fake evidence, and caused many people to be imprisoned unjustly, and some to lose their lives in prison. In a normal society, this shameless, slanderous person named Zihni Çakır, who enabled the persecution of people through secret false testimony, should not be able to walk around in society. In the 2010 referendum, where the leader of FETÖ, the head terrorist, said 'WE MUST RAISE THOSE IN THE GRAVES AND MAKE THEM VOTE YES', I and 200 of my lawyer friends placed an advertisement in a newspaper and said 'NO'. It took courage to say this at a time when FETÖ was at its strongest and could darken people's futures. This statement of ours is available in open sources. I served as counsel for victims of illegal wiretapping by FETÖ members in these files. I had clients in many conspiracy cases where FETÖ used fake evidence.

"AN INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED AGAINST ME"

An investigation was conducted against me in 2013 by FETÖ members themselves, who drew up a report. I will submit these to the file. Immediately after the treacherous coup attempt, when some people were hesitant to appear on screens, I went on live broadcasts for hours and explained that July 15 was a treacherous coup attempt and that it was carried out by FETÖ members. In short, while types like Zihni Çakır, who were secret witnesses in favor of FETÖ in conspiracy cases, were licking the snotty handkerchief of the FETÖ leader, we were fighting against the organization and saying that this organization was the F-type terrorist organization. So, as you can understand, dear friends, all of Turkey knows that I am not a FETÖ supporter. On this occasion, I condemn the insolent, immoral, and base post made against our esteemed President, who was elected, derives his legitimacy from the people, and has been favored by the public, and against the government, by this person who is an apparatus of the FETÖ Terrorist Organization and whom I have only seen for 15 minutes in my life at that invitation table. There are no 'Children of Gülen' in Turkey as this person says; there are members of the FETÖ Terrorist Organization who wanted to carry out the treacherous coup attempt of July 15.

"I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT I WILL REMAIN SILENT"

The bribery file, which is proceeding with a statement of a fictional-conspiracy nature by an individual who has a conviction for fraud and has a file for crimes such as bribery and influence peddling in the Court of Cassation 5th Criminal Chamber file no. 2022/33 E., and the aforementioned persons, contains logical errors, contradictions, and even dates and locations that do not match, which are diametrically opposed to the statements made by the inspector during the investigation-prosecution stages in the Court of Cassation 5th Criminal Chamber's file, and is clearly devoid of legal basis and unfounded due to the content of the statement, the date of the fiction, and the logical errors. Likewise, the authority for this investigation is the Justice/HSK Inspectors in accordance with Article 86 of the Judges and Prosecutors Law No. 2802. Only they can legally carry out examination and investigation procedures. We have full faith that the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will reveal the material truth in this matter as well. For 20 years in this country, I have been acting as a social responsibility project as counsel for victimized families in files regarding femicides such as Münevver Karabulut, Pınar Gültekin, and Nazlı Sinem Erköseoğlu; the brutal murder of our children such as Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi; and earthquake files such as Ezgi, Rönesans, Rende, and Ilgın Apartment. The entire Turkish public knows the struggles for rights I have carried out over these 20 years. I am making this press statement due to this conscientious responsibility. I trust in justice. I offer my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who conveyed their prayers and good wishes.
