A concert was organized by the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV) İzmir Branch at the Çeşme Open-Air Theater for the benefit of education.

Despina Vandi, who was scheduled to perform at the theater packed with spectators, did not take the stage despite the wait.

After a while, the Foundation's İzmir Branch President Gülnur Sonbayraktar made a statement, saying that the artist could not perform due to reasons beyond their control at the last minute and that tickets could be refunded to those who wished.

After the TEV choir, which was planned to share the stage with Despina Vandi, performed the İzmir March, the audience joined in.

Çeşme Mayor Lal Denizli, who took the stage, said that as a municipality, they had provided all the support they could for the concert held for the benefit of education, but that they had received information that Despina Vandi did not want to take the stage.

Denizli stated the following:

"Because she wanted the Turkish flag and Atatürk's poster to be taken down. Do not boo; I don't even think she is a person worth wasting your beautiful breath on.

We gave many martyrs to win these lands, and we are people who always believe that brotherhood and eternal friendship will prevail."

Expressing her hope that what happened would be a lesson for the Greek singer, Denizli continued her words as follows:

"No power can dare to take down our flag or Atatürk's poster. She cannot even cross that thought through her mind. The lady should leave the borders of this city immediately. Calmly, peacefully. But I hope that in no other country she visits will she even think about taking down that country's flag, which was obtained with blood and is a symbol for the many children of the homeland they have buried. I hope this will be a historic lesson for her."

Following the speech, the concert continued with songs performed by the TEV choir.
