Gunfire at soldier send-off party leaves municipal officer critically injured
A municipal police officer was critically injured after shots were fired into the air during a soldier send-off party in the Serik district of Antalya; the suspect has been taken into custody.
During a soldier send-off party in the Eskiyörük neighborhood, A.Y. fired a handgun into the air. Abdullah Karadayı, a municipal police officer employed by the Serik Municipality who was in the area, was struck by one of the bullets.
Upon notification, 112 Emergency Health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.
Karadayı, who was taken to Serik State Hospital in critical condition, was transferred to Akdeniz University Hospital following initial intervention.
A.Y., who fired the shots into the air, was taken into custody by gendarmerie teams.
An investigation at the scene determined that the bullet that injured the officer also struck a vehicle.
