Gürsel Tekin, appointed as trustee to CHP, declares 'I will sit in that chair': Sets time for Monday
Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency by court order, has set a time for Monday.
The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance has decided to remove Özgür Çelik, who was elected president at the 38th Ordinary CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress, and his administration from office.
With this decision, Gürsel Tekin, Zeki Şen, Hasan Babacan, Müjdat Gürbüz, and Erkan Narsap were appointed as trustees to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency.
However, Hasan Babacan and Müjdat Gürbüz withdrew from the board of trustees with a decision they made today.
In a video shared on social media, it was noted that the phrase “CHP Istanbul Provincial President” appeared under Tekin's name.
Speaking to Ahmet Ayva from İlke TV, Gürsel Tekin stated that he had received invitations to many television programs but had not appeared on any of them “in order not to damage the party.” Stating that he would make a statement on Monday, Tekin said the following:
“I will protect the institutional identity of the Republican People's Party. To put an end to all these discussions, I will be at the CHP provincial building on Monday at 12:00. I will go to the provincial presidency and sit in that chair. I will make my press statement there. I will answer all questions and reactions there.”
Responding to criticisms regarding his acceptance of the duty during a period when the CHP is on the rise, Tekin said, “As a true son of the CHP, I will fulfill my duty and lead my party out of the crisis it is in. No one can prevent this. I have no intention of confronting any of my colleagues.”
