Gürsel Tekin's notable move before the 'trustee' decision: For party membership
While Gürsel Tekin described the court's trustee decision regarding him by stating, 'We are not on his or anyone else's side,' the step he took one day before the trustee decision was issued has drawn attention.
In the lawsuit filed for the cancellation of the congress held in Istanbul on October 8, 2023, the court decided to remove Özgür Çelik and the current administration from office.
A committee consisting of Gürsel Tekin, Zeki Şen, Hasan Babacan, Müjdat Gürbüz, and Erkan Narsap was appointed as trustees to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency.
In a statement following the decision, Gürsel Tekin noted that the court ruling had not yet reached him and said, "We are not on his or anyone else's side. I am the one who criticized Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu the most. My 4 friends and I have been CHP members for 40 years. We will pursue a policy that integrates rather than divides, and leads to power in this way."
Tekin stated that when the decision reaches him, he will serve as the provincial president and will not refuse.
It had previously emerged that Gürsel Tekin had decided to resign from the CHP but had not officially taken this step. Journalist Altan Sancar revealed the striking move Tekin made before the trustee decision was taken through a statement he made on his social media account.
Sancar hinted that Tekin was aware of the decision with his post: "It has emerged that Gürsel Tekin, who had previously announced he would resign but did not, and who needed to be a party member to be a trustee, paid his party membership dues yesterday, that is, before the decision."
