Hacker pursued by the FBI captured in Nazilli: He introduced himself as a pharmacy technician

The Aydın Nazilli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched a large-scale operation across Turkey targeting illegal betting and online gambling activities. As part of the operation carried out at the beginning of August, simultaneous raids were conducted on a total of 42 addresses in 13 provinces, including Aydın, Istanbul, Balıkesir, Antalya, Niğde, Aksaray, and Konya.

HACKER FOUND IN NAZİLLİ

During the operation, 35 suspects, including the famous hacker Muhammed Nur Görgen, who was being pursued by the FBI, were taken into custody. 14 of the detained suspects were arrested.

According to the report by Timur Soykan from BirGün, Muhammed Nur Görgen, born in Midyat, Mardin, is among those arrested. In his statement to the prosecutor's office, Görgen introduced himself as a pharmacy technician and declared his monthly income as 50,000 TL. Görgen, who has no house or car in official records, stated that he was staying at his brother's house.

HE HAD BEEN DETAINED ON SUSPICION OF ILLEGAL BETTING

Muhammed Nur Görgen's name first came to the agenda in 2010 with a cyberattack on the US-based gaming site Knight Online. The FBI identified two hackers in Turkey who carried out this attack and named Görgen as one of them.

Görgen had infiltrated thousands of computers with a virus named 'Zombie' to launch attacks on sites and demanded money from some companies. Görgen, who was tried with a 9-year prison sentence, was detained again after a long hiatus, this time linked to an illegal betting and online gambling network.

LARGE QUANTITY OF DIGITAL MATERIAL SEIZED

A large quantity of digital material was seized on Görgen, who was captured in Antalya along with his brother, and on the computers found in his home. Görgen did not provide the passwords for these materials to the authorities.

The four-month investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office revealed that the illegal betting and online gambling organization had a highly organized structure. It was determined that the network provided online training to new recruits, conducted performance evaluations, and gave rewards to those who were successful. Furthermore, it was determined that the network managers held meetings in various cities across Turkey to organize illegal betting and gambling activities.

It was determined that this large criminal organization operated in a holding-like structure and that hundreds of people worked in numerous departments. Muhammed Nur Görgen is alleged to have been at the center of this organization. Görgen was released last week.
