Hakan Fidan: Israel must make a choice
Speaking at a joint press conference with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, "Israel must make a choice. Pressure and persecution against Palestinians have not brought peace to Israelis, and they will not."
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a joint press conference with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen.
Addressing Israel, Minister Fidan said, "Israel must make a choice. Pressure and persecution against Palestinians have not brought peace to Israelis, and they will not. If Israel does not do this, it will find itself in an ever-growing environment and spiral of violence. As Turkey, we are urging common sense."
Fidan continued as follows:
"We must prevent the crisis from spreading; otherwise, something worse will happen. Israel is violating international law. For the only solution, an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, must be realized.
We desire for Muslim countries in the region to take an active role in the guarantor mechanism. As Turkey, we will continue our efforts with this constructive understanding. Efforts must be made to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza without interruption.
We have never been a partner to oppression, and we never will be. What we ask of Israel is to heed our call for peace."
"TURKEY IS A VERY IMPORTANT ACTOR IN REGIONAL POLITICS"
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen said, "I looked forward to this visit with great enthusiasm. We have had intensive contacts within a few months.
The meeting was extremely useful. We held a very open and constructive meeting. It was also a very informative meeting. Denmark and Turkey are close allies.
Even if our perspectives do not always align, our bilateral relations will continue to develop. Turkey is a very important actor in regional politics."
