Haluk Levent arrested

In the investigation regarding corruption allegations at the AHBAP Association, Haluk Levent and 13 others have been arrested.

The 25 suspects detained as part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Ahbap Association had been referred to the courthouse.

Of the 25 suspects, 19 were referred to the duty Magistrate Judge for arrest, and 6 were referred with a request for judicial control.

Those referred with a request for arrest:

14 people, including Haluk Levent, Ece Güner, İlker Çetin, Nurdan Eriş, Yusuf Can Ertit, Kemal Ötünç, Şehmuz Baştuğ, Abdulcevat Özkan, Emrah Gödeliner, Erhan Dökmeci, Halil Bostancı, Mehmet Ulu, Yeliz Kaya, and Zafer Yay, were arrested.

EMPHASIS ON 'MASAK' AND 'TRANSPARENCY' IN THE REFERRAL DOCUMENT

The prosecutor's document, which served as the basis for Haluk Levent's referral for arrest, contained striking findings. The document pointed specifically to the management of billions of liras in funds collected after the 2023 earthquake and included the following statements:

"It is understood that there are strong indications of suspicion regarding whether the aid was managed or spent in a transparent and auditable manner, and these suspicions and evidence have been strengthened as a result of both the suspect's personal weaknesses and economic situation, as well as the findings made in the completed MASAK report."

The referral document also emphasized that the Ahbap Association does not hold the status of an association working for the public benefit; it was noted that concrete findings were made regarding the depletion of the association's assets and the disposal of its real estate, and that the MASAK investigation and evidence collection processes are continuing in a multi-faceted manner.
