'He attended the coup meetings at the villa' it was said: It was reported that he was on duty during those dates...

It has emerged that former Gendarmerie Staff Colonel Murat Koçyiğit, who was sentenced to 141 aggravated life sentences on the grounds that he participated in coup preparations led by Adil Öksüz at a villa in Ankara Çayyolu between July 6-9 prior to the July 15 coup attempt, was acting as the Gendarmerie Schools Commander between July 1-10.

The trial regarding 108 of the July 15 martyrs, involving individuals stated to be members of the so-called Peace at Home Council, continued.

In the sixth session of the trial, which is being held at the Sincan Prison Complex courtroom by the Ankara 17th High Criminal Court and is being heard almost year by year due to the wait for the Court of Cassation results of the General Staff Main Case and the cases where the primary perpetrators of our martyrs are being tried, the Presiding Judge stated that due to the fact that these files, which are being used as a reason for delay, have not yet been concluded, only the requests and statements of the defendants would be taken.

“COUP” ACCUSATION AGAINST PERİNÇEK

One of the defendants, former Major General Kubilay Selçuk, the 2nd Main Jet Base Commander of the period, targeted Doğu Perinçek over the “National state declaration” published by the Vatan Party a few days ago, saying, “I want to make a report and a criminal complaint to you.” Claiming that Perinçek is a pawn in the July 15 trap, Selçuk said:

“In this declaration, it is said, 'As the Vatan Party, we laid the gladio to rest in a bloody manner in an environment where everyone was cowering on July 15-16.' Perinçek is the gladio itself. If you are looking for justice, if you are looking for the perpetrators of the martyrs, you will look at him, you will bring that man here. There are Hulusi Akar and Hakan Fidan who prepared the July 15 trap. I never played theater. I am here, while those acrobats are doing things with series over there. What are they doing in the Goncalar series? They say, 'You are ruled by the deep, fear, cower.' Oh my nation, come to your senses, wake up now. What else has Doğu Perinçek hatched? He talks about the shaping of the operational environment as a pawn of the preparers of the July 15 trap. He explains that this campaign will not remain in propaganda, but that the main goal is organization. This looks like a civil declaration, but it is a complete uprising plan. I am filing a criminal complaint.”

PRESIDING JUDGE: “WE LOOK IF THE JAR IS BROKEN”

Upon these allegations by Selçuk, the Presiding Judge commented, “He has conveyed his foresight as a political party leader. You can file a criminal complaint,” and smiled.

When Selçuk said, “You think so. Do not smile, let me explain so you can understand who this man is. There is another pawn next to the government, a security-oriented one. You will see what they will bring upon us,” the Presiding Judge replied:

“This is not the subject of our case. In our trials, there is a saying, 'Is the jar broken or not?' If the jar is broken, we look at that.”

Finally, Kubilay Selçuk requested that Doğu Perinçek be heard as a witness in the trial.

MEHMET GÖRMEZ DEBATE

One of the defendants, former Presidential Guard Regiment Commander Muhsin Kutsi Barış, claimed, “It is called a 'failed coup attempt' for July 15. No, July 15 is not a failed coup, it is an extremely successful coup in terms of those who did it and the perpetrators,” and then requested that former President of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez, who was heard as a witness last week in the case regarding the attempt to kidnap the then MIT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan, also be heard as a witness in this case.

When Muhsin Kutsi Barış said about Görmez, “He is a key element of July 15 and he is not telling the truth. He even lies about the notification he received while connecting to the hearing via SEGBİS. This is a man of religion,” the Presiding Judge defended Görmez with the words, “They asked what they wanted in SEGBİS as well. Isn't what matters the witness's statement?”

Muhsin Kutsi Barış said, “I want him to be heard face-to-face here,” and then also requested that Hulusi Akar, Hakan Fidan, and Yaşar Güler be called as witnesses, claiming, “I assess that their witness statuses will change over time.”

THE GENDARMERIE GENERAL COMMAND'S RESPONSE

One of the defendants, former Gendarmerie Staff Colonel Murat Koçyiğit, reminded that in previous sessions he had explained that he was punished on the grounds that he was at the villa where the coup was planned in the first week of July, whereas he was acting for the then Gendarmerie Schools Commander Brigadier General Sadık Köroğlu between July 1-10 because he was on leave, and that he had requested this to be asked to the Gendarmerie General Command, and that the Court had written a letter, and asked whether the response had arrived.

While the Presiding Judge was looking at the files, the lawyers said, “It has arrived. It has been reported that Murat Koçyiğit was acting for Brigadier General Sadık Köroğlu on those dates.”

Upon this, Koçyiğit said the following:

“Why is this important? Because it was alleged that I participated in the coup preparation meetings between July 6-9. Even though two secret witnesses said, 'Murat Koçyiğit was not there,' I was punished. There are gendarmes here, let it be asked; can someone acting as the Schools Commander leave their post for a minute, can they turn off their phone for days? They will say 'It cannot be,' and it didn't happen anyway; but I was punished by instruction.”

Defendant Osman Kılıç also stated that if a ballistic examination were conducted on the weapons used by the police and gendarmerie special operations and the military on July 15, as well as the weapons distributed by the Security Directorate that night, the real perpetrators of the killings and injuries would be revealed, saying, “Every time you reject this request of mine without showing any justification. However, I will repeat it again in the next session.”

After the statements of the defendants and their lawyers were completed, the Prosecutor gave an opinion in the direction of waiting for the results of the Court of Cassation review of the files where the primary perpetrators regarding the martyrs are being tried and the General Staff Main Case.

The court decided to wait for the results of the files in question and to reject the requests for hearing witnesses at this stage, and adjourned the trial to April 14, 2025.
