He broke a father of two's nose on the Marmaray: The requested sentence for Ekrem Dur has been determined

In a fistfight that occurred on a Marmaray train in Maltepe, Istanbul, Deniz Eroğlu was assaulted in front of his two children, resulting in a broken nose. A lawsuit has been filed against the attacker, Ekrem Dur, seeking up to 4.5 years in prison.

In the incident that took place at the Süreyyapaşa Marmaray Station on May 30, 2025, Deniz Eroğlu was about to board the train with his two children when he had a verbal altercation with Zehra A., who was standing in front of the door. Ekrem Dur, one of the passengers who intervened when Zehra A. began to cry during the argument, reacted loudly toward Eroğlu. Another passenger, İbrahim A., also joined the dispute.

According to the allegations, Ekrem Dur called Deniz Eroğlu out of the train during the argument, but Eroğlu did not leave his place because of his children. At that moment, Dur attempted to forcibly pull Eroğlu out and punched him in the face. Following the incident, the panicked children were calmed down by female passengers.

Ekrem Dur, who was detained upon the complaint of Eroğlu—whose nose was broken and who sustained injuries that could not be treated with simple medical intervention—was arrested by the criminal judgeship of peace. However, he was released on June 4 following an objection by his lawyer.

In the indictment prepared by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that Dur be sentenced to between 1.5 and 4.5 years in prison for the crime of "intentional injury aggravated by its consequences." The indictment has been accepted by the court, and the trial process will begin in the coming days.
