He clicked on a social media ad, and his money vanished

Driving instructor Seyithan Oymacı, who lives in the Eğitim neighborhood of Bursa's central Yıldırım district, saw a bank advertisement on his social media account while thinking about buying a car for his son during the pandemic. Oymacı, who browsed the ad offering a loan with 0.84 interest, clicked on the link.

30 THOUSAND LIRAS WITHDRAWN FROM HIS ACCOUNT

Oymacı, who filled out the form that appeared, was called by an unknown number one day later. The scammers, who trapped Oymacı, who wanted to benefit from the low-interest loan opportunity, asked for his identity and confirmation information to infiltrate his bank account. Oymacı, who gave the confirmation code sent to his phone to the scammers, saw that his account was in the negative after a payment made by a student he was tutoring a few days later. The man, who immediately checked his accounts, saw that a loan of over 30 thousand liras had been taken out from his account.

Oymacı, who headed to the prosecutor's office, filed a complaint to ensure that the suspects who defrauded him were found and punished. Following the work of the police teams, the identified suspects were found. One of the 3 suspects tried in the 13th High Criminal Court upon the complaint was arrested and sent to prison. Two suspects were fined.

"I WILL APPLY TO THE JUDICIARY"

Oymacı, who paid approximately 60 thousand liras including interest, said, "I am a retired man; this is not an easy debt for us. I will also apply to the judiciary to have this loss covered."

Oymacı, who fell into the trap of the scammers, said, "It was the pandemic period. I was looking for a loan to buy a vehicle for my son. I said, 'Let me browse social media' for a while. At that moment, a bank ad appeared. The ad said that a loan with 0.84 interest could be taken out. I clicked on the link because I was curious about the details. I filled out a form on the link I clicked. A day later, a number called me and asked me to tell them my ID and the code sent to my phone to complete my loan application. They had logged into my mobile banking account from their own phones. When I became suspicious, I hung up the phone and went to the bank. I asked the bank staff if there was any activity in my account. When the bank officials said there wasn't, I went home. I had given a private lesson to a student. Later, when they sent money to my account, I saw that my account had dropped into the negative. When I checked my accounts, I saw that a loan of over 30 thousand liras had been taken out in my name. I immediately went to the prosecutor's office and filed a complaint. I gave the number that called me to the police. Thank God, the police teams identified the suspects after their work. The 13th High Criminal Court determined that the suspects had defrauded me. While 2 of them received administrative fines, one was arrested. Justice was served. Now my only wish is the refund of the money I did not use."
