He had filed a complaint against him: Scathing remarks from Meral Akşener's brother-in-law

Former IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener had filed a criminal complaint against Hasan Basri Akşener, a member of the Zafer Party's Founders' Board and Central Disciplinary Board.

The criminal complaint, filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office last July, included social media posts made by her brother-in-law, who lives in İzmit, as well as conversations held via social media accounts with S.K., who frequently meets with Meral Akşener.

Hasan Basri Akşener, the brother-in-law whom Meral Akşener complained about, made statements regarding the legal process.

Stating that his acquaintance with Meral Akşener dates back to the 1980s, Hasan Basri Akşener noted that they had no problems previously, but after Meral Akşener founded her party in 2017, his social media posts in 2018 caused problems within the family.

"THESE DON'T SUIT US, YOUR SURNAME IS AKŞENER"

Hasan Basri Akşener stated that he received backlash for his posts, particularly from his older brother Tuncer Akşener, saying, "These writings bothered the other side. Naturally, a reaction formed when they were bothered. My brother Tuncer Akşener gave warnings like, 'Why are you writing these? These don't suit us, your surname is Akşener.' I said, 'If you are bothered by this situation, I will write a statement,' and I published this text. In the text, I said, 'I have no ideological connection with Meral Akşener. The things I write only bind Hasan Basri Akşener. I am not writing on behalf of Meral Akşener; I am writing on my own behalf.' However, it seems this did not resolve the discomfort. My writings must have been effective, I suppose. I think my writings bothered her. Because of this, the process that started after 2018 reached a breaking point in 2020. It seems I have been followed by her because of these writings of mine. She filed a lawsuit against me," he expressed.

"I AM ALWAYS IN FAVOR OF RECONCILIATION"

Hasan Basri Akşener stated that a lawsuit was filed against him following his social media posts and that he faced accusations of threats, saying, "I do not have a licensed or unlicensed weapon. I have not made any statement that could contain threats in any way. There is no such situation. She made an inference from a text I wrote between two people. As if I had set an ambush for her and was waiting. She manipulated her lawyer with an expression as if I were going to follow her during holidays. It led to speculation. Of course, if the prosecutor had evaluated this speculation, he would have had to arrest me that night. If you are openly threatening a person, you would be arrested. Since there was no such situation, there was no arrest. The lawsuit was filed, and mediation was attempted first. I was always in favor of reconciliation, but the other side did not want to reconcile," he said.

"THE THREAT LAWSUIT IS VERY COMICAL"

Stating that he does not know what he will be tried for, Hasan Basri Akşener said, "It is at the investigation stage. The indictment will be prepared. I don't know if I will be tried for threats or defamation. But the threat lawsuit was very comical. A person who has served as Minister of Interior says about her brother-in-law: 'He is following me in some way.' I mean, I am following her, supposedly I know the places she goes, and I am going to shoot her when I see her. Can such a thing be? Can there be such logic? She went to my mother's house in Sapanca. Later, she took my mother to Ankara. If you were that afraid, after all, you don't live in İzmit, but I am supposedly going to follow and find you... You go and pick up my mother, take her to your house, and pose for photos. If I were a potential criminal for you, you go to my mother's house in Sapanca. I mean that as the place where I could find you most easily. So, she also knows, and everyone knows, that there is no element of threat in any way," he said.

"THIS IS A POLITICIAN'S REVENGE"

Stating that this is a politician's revenge, Hasan Basri Akşener said, "Of course, I may have had ideas and different thoughts that I wrote and drew in the past that were not the same as hers, with their accumulation. I think that when she left politics, or rather took a break from politics—I don't think she will leave politics, but she took a break—during this break, she is taking revenge for what happened in the last 5 years of her past. She has filed lawsuits against even the smallest units in the party," he said.

"SHE IS NOT EXACTLY LILY-WHITE HERSELF"

Conveying that Meral Akşener said about him, "He is not of sound mind," Hasan Basri Akşener included the expressions, "She said the same thing for Ümit Özdağ. These words reached me. I said, would someone who is not of sound mind write 39 books? She herself is also insulting. She hasn't insulted few people herself. She called generals 'frivolous.' She is not exactly lily-white herself."

"MY BROTHER ALWAYS SAYS, 'OBEY YOUR WIFE AND BE SAVED'"

Explaining that his brother always tells him, 'Obey your wife and be saved,' Hasan Basri Akşener said, "Screenshots of these conversations were sent to my party friends. If you are filing a lawsuit, you are sending these to third parties, to people who have nothing to do with me. When you put all of these together, it is clear that there is malice, that it was done to discredit me, to embarrass and humiliate me. My brother always says, 'Obey your wife and be saved.' That's why I have no words for him, and he has no words for me. I cannot have words for him because he obeys Meral Akşener. If there is a problem, the one who will solve it is Meral Akşener," he said.
