The trial of Bedirhan Şener, the son of former minister Abdüllatif Şener, on charges of killing his grandmother, continued.

The detained defendant Bedirhan Şener, his family, and his lawyers attended the hearing at the Ankara 1st High Criminal Court.

During the hearing, where it was reported that the report from the Forensic Medicine Specialized Board had not yet reached the case file, the lawyer for the Ministry of Family and Social Services requested to join the case.

While defendant Şener stated that he had no statement to make, the public prosecutor requested the continuation of the defendant's detention.

The court accepted the ministry's request to join the case and ruled for the continuation of Şener's detention.

The trial was adjourned to January 29, 2025.

In the indictment, it is requested that Bedirhan Şener, who shot and killed his grandmother whom he had taken hostage in Ankara, be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment as well as 14 to 23 years in prison for the crimes of "intentional killing of a lineal ascendant," "attempted intentional killing of a lineal ascendant," and "violation of Law No. 6136."
