He had said 'Saying good morning is a custom of the Age of Ignorance': This is how Diyanet President Ali Erbaş addressed Ahmet Hakan...
Hürriyet newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan wrote that Diyanet President Ali Erbaş said "good morning" to him during President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's trip to Albania.
Hürriyet newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan penned an article reminiscent of Diyanet President Ali Erbaş's 2021 statement that "Saying good morning is a custom of the Age of Ignorance."
'YOU SAW IT, DIDN'T YOU? I DO SAY GOOD MORNING'
Hakan wrote that he went to the airport to join President Erdoğan's trip to Albania and that Erbaş said "good morning" to him, "emphasizing it and underlining it."
The relevant part of Hakan's article is as follows:
"Then he said, 'You saw it, didn't you, Ahmet Bey? I do say good morning.'
We laughed.
The reason for Ali Erbaş Hoca's participation in the trip was to perform the opening of the Namazgâh Mosque, which was built in Albania with Turkey's support."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The remarks, which appeared in Erbaş's article titled "Spread peace among yourselves" published in Yeni Şafak on July 3, 2015, and in the book titled "Ramadan Diaries – II" (2019, Ankara, p. 66) published by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, implying that "Saying good morning is a custom of the Age of Ignorance," became a topic of discussion in 2021; however, Erbaş denied using these expressions and issued a rebuttal.
