He had said 'We will interfere with those who do not cover their heads': Criminal complaint filed against that principal

The Secularism Assembly has filed a criminal complaint against Ergin Kaya Kırbıyık, the principal of Celalettin Ökten Imam Hatip Secondary School in the Yıldırım district of Bursa.

Following Kırbıyık's remarks at a parent-teacher meeting, where he stated, "We will interfere with students who wear shorts and students who do not cover their heads," the criminal complaint demands that Principal Kırbıyık be punished for various offenses.

In the criminal complaint filed with the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that Kırbıyık be prosecuted for crimes including "violation of the Constitution," "inciting the public to hatred and hostility," "misconduct in public office," "discrimination," and "preventing the right to education." The complaint also included Kırbıyık's statements to a parent: "I will also make the female teachers cover up; no one will come uncovered. If you say Sharia, I will implement Sharia. If you do not want to cover up, I will force you to cover up."

IT WAS STATED THAT HE CENSORED THE FACES OF GIRLS

It was noted that Kırbıyık openly shared images of male students on the school's social media account while censoring the faces of female students, emphasizing that discrimination was being practiced against the girls.

The criminal complaint also stated that Kırbıyık's remark, "Students with uncovered heads should not even take the exam," constitutes an obstruction of the right to education.

In the Secularism Assembly's complaint, it was stated, "Kırbıyık's attempt to obstruct the right to education, which is guaranteed by the Constitution, using a threatening tone based on religious rules, as well as his attempt to manage a secular public institution according to his own sectarian religious rules, is clearly a crime." It was further noted, "Kırbıyık's interference with the dress code of female students and forcing them to cover their heads falls under the scope of abuse of authority and misconduct in public office."
