He injured his wife, who was in the process of divorcing him, with a utility knife: 13 to 20 years in prison requested

Bakırköy'de, a prosecutor's opinion has been presented in the retrial of a defendant whose previous prison sentence for injuring his wife, who was in the process of divorcing him, in the face with a utility knife at a shopping mall was overturned by the appellate court.

The defendant, Mesut Öztürkmen, attended the hearing at the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).

It was stated that the report requested from the Council of Forensic Medicine had arrived at the hearing, where the complainant's lawyer and the lawyer for the Ministry of Family and Social Services were also present.

PERMANENT SCAR ON WIFE'S FACE

The report, which stated that the scar detected within the boundaries of the face during the examination of the complainant was noticeable at first glance from a certain distance, noted that a permanent scar had formed on the complainant's face, and that the functional limitation and anatomical deficiency due to facial paresis constituted a permanent weakening of the function of one of the organs.

In the hearing, the public prosecutor, who presented his final opinion on the merits, stated that the complainant and the defendant were married before the date of the incident, that the complainant had cut off communication with the defendant 3 months before the incident, and that there were various problems between them.

The opinion, which noted that there was a restraining order against the defendant regarding the complainant, described how the complainant went to the scene of the incident with her friends on the day of the incident, and that the defendant made various attempts to find the complainant and tracked her online.

The opinion stated that on the day of the incident, the defendant approached the complainant from behind while she was sitting, grabbed her hair and pulled her head back, and tried to cut the complainant's face and head area with a utility knife he had with him, causing serious cuts on the complainant's face.

CUTS CAUSED ORGAN WEAKENING

The opinion noted that the cuts caused organ weakening in the complainant, that the defendant's act was interrupted by the intervention of the complainant's friends, that when the defendant's actions were evaluated, his intent was to kill the complainant, and that the complainant did not commit any act that would constitute unjust provocation.

The hearing, in which the prosecutor requested a prison sentence of 13 to 20 years for the defendant Öztürkmen for the crime of "attempted intentional murder of a spouse," was adjourned.
