A sentence reduction was applied to Ege Rüştü Akoğlu, who killed Beyzanur Kaya with a firearm following an argument in Ankara. In its reasoned decision, the court stated that Akoğlu's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by applying a good conduct reduction due to reasons such as "calling 112 after the incident, informing the neighbors, and getting into the police vehicle without the use of force."
According to the report in Hürriyet, the incident occurred on October 19, 2023, around 18:00 on 1304th Street in the Atapark neighborhood. Ege Rüştü Akoğlu had murdered Beyzanur Kaya, who was understood to be his girlfriend, with a firearm.
Upon reports from neighbors, police and medical teams were dispatched to the house, and checks by the teams determined that Beyzanur Kaya had lost her life. The perpetrator, who was taken into custody by the police, was arrested by the court and sent to prison.
The court sentenced the defendant Akoğlu to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a woman."
Applying a discretionary reduction, the court commuted the sentence to life imprisonment. The perpetrator Akoğlu was also sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison for the crime of "possession and carrying of an unlicensed firearm."
