Vesim Şimşek, the father who was critically injured after attempting suicide following the killing of 3 of his 4 children and the wounding of 1 in the Bornova district of İzmir, has died in the hospital where he was being treated.
The blood-chilling incident occurred on the morning of August 27 in an olive grove in the mountainous area above Merkez 4541/1 Street. Vesim Şimşek, who was reported to have psychological problems, brought his children Hiranur (11), Cemre (4), Ceylin (2), and Nira Şimşek (14) to the olive grove, which is 2 kilometers away from their home.
Şimşek fired repeatedly at his 4 children with the handgun he had with him. The children collapsed to the ground after being struck by bullets in various parts of their bodies. Vesim Şimşek then called a relative, told them he had shot his children and that he was going to commit suicide, and provided their location before attempting to take his own life with the same weapon.
The critically injured father, Vesim Şimşek, passed away today in the hospital where he had been taken.
