He opposed the dismissal of the lieutenants: He was threatened with death

Threats against Land Forces Command Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Tevfik Algan, who opposed the dismissal of the lieutenants from the Turkish Armed Forces, have shaken the agenda. While Algan was threatened with death for casting a dissenting vote on the dismissal decision, CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu brought the issue to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FROM CHP'S BAĞCIOĞLU

In a parliamentary question addressed to the Minister of National Defense, Bağcıoğlu asked whether the Land Forces Command and the National Defense University Rectorate had filed any criminal complaints regarding these threats. Bağcıoğlu stated, "It is unacceptable for a commander to be threatened for making a decision in accordance with the law. Have the authorized institutions taken action in the face of these threats?"

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the official ceremony at the Military Academy graduation on August 30, 5 lieutenants and 3 disciplinary officers who crossed their swords and recited the Officer's Oath, chanting "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal," were dismissed from the TSK. The High Disciplinary Board (YDK) decision was taken with a 5 to 4 vote. It was learned that YDK President Lieutenant General Tevfik Algan, who opposed the dismissal of the lieutenants and filed a dissenting opinion, requested his retirement. According to the information obtained, after the dismissal decision, Algan was sent to the Winter Exercise in Sarıkamış, which was ongoing. He was then temporarily assigned to the 3rd Army, headquartered in Erzincan and commanded by Lieutenant General Veli Tarakçı. Following this development, Algan, who went on leave for a while, submitted his retirement petition yesterday. It is also stated that a farewell ceremony was held for Algan today.

On the other hand, it was also alleged that the other three commanders who filed dissenting opinions on the dismissal decision were sent to different units with temporary assignments and were asked to retire.
