He predicted the 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Sındırgı, Balıkesir a month ago: He had drawn attention to that fault line

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. According to the statement made by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the earthquake, which took place at 19:53, had a depth of approximately 11 kilometers below the surface. The tremor was felt in provinces including Istanbul, as well as Izmir, Bursa, Aydın, Yalova, Eskişehir, and Ankara.

FELT IN MANY PROVINCES

The tremor was felt over a wide area in many provinces in the Marmara Region. In major cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, and Bursa, citizens experienced panic during the earthquake, and material damage occurred in some buildings in the cities.

REPORTS OF COLLAPSED BUILDINGS AND LOSS OF LIFE

Following the earthquake, some buildings collapsed in the Sındırgı district. While there has been no official statement yet regarding whether there has been any loss of life, security units and search-and-rescue teams have quickly arrived in the region.

PROF. DR. ŞENER ÜŞÜMEZSOY HAD PREDICTED IT 1 MONTH AGO

It has emerged that Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy predicted this earthquake that occurred in Balıkesir one month in advance. In a statement he made on July 16, Üşümezsoy emphasized that focus should be placed on Balıkesir instead of the "Great Istanbul earthquake." Furthermore, he drew attention to the Sarıköy Fault, stating that this region carries a high risk of a major earthquake.

Stating that there has been stress accumulation on this line following the 1953 Yenice-Gönen earthquake, Üşümezsoy had expressed that Southern Marmara is under a significant earthquake threat. Specifically pointing to the Gönen-Yenice line, Üşümezsoy had stated that the probability of a major earthquake in this region was quite high.
