'He said he participated in Gezi': Yeni Akit columnist demands trial for Tuğrul Türkeş's son

AKP Ankara MP Tuğrul Türkeş's announcement that he intends to visit Gezi prisoner Osman Kavala and other Gezi detainees continues to spark intense debate.

Most recently, in an interview with Halk TV columnist İsmail Saymaz, Türkeş had said, "My son says, 'We blocked the road, we burned barrels.' For God's sake, didn't the youth do this?"

Ali Karahasanoğlu wrote, "If there is a single honorable legal expert who says that blocking a road and burning barrels is not a crime, I will break my pen. If no such legal expert comes forward to say this, then the trial of Uğur Türkeş is mandatory."

'THIS SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED'

Stating that "blocking roads and burning barrels are secondary elements of an attempt to overthrow a legitimately elected government," Karahasanoğlu called on prosecutors to act, adding the following:

"It is not acceptable to investigate when the poor commit crimes, but to remain a spectator when the children of members of parliament commit crimes, or even confess to them. Whoever commits a crime must be investigated. Especially if there are those who make attempts to get other criminals released from prison because their own crimes are not being investigated. This should not be ignored at all."
