He targeted Özgür Özel after failing to secure a nomination: The figure who said 'CHP will be buried at the ballot box' has become Deputy Secretary General of the CHP
Soner Çetin, who targeted CHP leader Özgür Özel and his administration after not being nominated in the March 31 Local Elections and declared that "the CHP will be buried at the ballot box," has been appointed as Deputy Secretary General of the CHP by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the position of CHP Chairman by a court decision, continues to make appointments within the party administration.
Kılıçdaroğlu has appointed Soner Çetin, who resigned from the CHP after not being re-nominated for the Çukurova Mayoralty ahead of the 2024 Local Elections, to the position of Deputy Secretary General of the CHP.

HE HAD REACTED HARSHLY AFTER NOT BEING NOMINATED
Reacting to the CHP administration during the nomination process, Çetin stated at the time: "With this structure, the CHP will definitely receive a significant lesson at the ballot box on March 31; it will be buried at the ballot box. A great defeat awaits our ancestral party. The new CHP administration and its chairman will also say 'Bye bye Turkey' on March 31 and leave. The shortest chairmanship in Republican history awaits Özgür Özel." he had said.
HE HAD RUN AS A CANDIDATE FROM THE IYI PARTY
After leaving the CHP, Soner Çetin joined the IYI Party and ran for Mayor of Çukurova in the 2024 Local Elections, receiving 8.55 percent of the vote. The CHP candidate, Emrah Kozay, was elected mayor with 52.84 percent of the vote.
HE HAD CALLED FOR A HOLIDAY CELEBRATION PROGRAM
Following the 'absolute nullity' decision, Çetin had also called out to party members before the holiday celebration program to be held at the CHP Headquarters by the Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu administration, stating, "We will welcome our esteemed Chairman with roses."
