He tore up the Quran and hurled insults; police saved him from being lynched
An individual who attempted to tear up a Quran in the Silopi district of Şırnak has been arrested by the judicial authorities to whom he was referred.
The incident occurred in the evening on 2nd Avenue. An individual identified as İ.B. (34) faced the reaction of citizens after he tore up a Quran he was holding and began hurling insults. İ.B., who was taken into the District Governorate building by police, was saved from being lynched at the last moment.
District Governor Cihat Koç and Silopi District Police Chief Saffet Özdemir, who arrived at the scene, calmed the citizens and asked them to disperse. İ.B. was taken from the District Governorate building in an armored vehicle under security measures and brought to the police station to have his statement taken.

It was learned that the individual had 12 prior criminal records and was a drug addict. After the individual was taken to the police station, the crowd dispersed without further incident.
ARRESTED
İ.B., who was referred to the courthouse after his statement at the police station, was sent to the Duty Magistrate Judge with a request for his arrest following his testimony at the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Appearing before the judge, İ.B. was arrested for the crime of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility or insulting them" and sent to prison.
