An incident within the Ministry of National Defense has left many speechless.

Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk wrote that a Band Lieutenant Colonel, whose name he did not disclose, filed a complaint petition after experiencing mobbing following an incident at his post at the Ministry of National Defense, but was subsequently reassigned to Şırnak "ex officio" in an isolated manner.

'THE BEARD IS THE ORNAMENT OF THE BELIEVER'

This incident, reported by Saygı Öztürk, was reflected in official documents as follows:

“To the Command: I was appointed as a Ceremonial Officer to the Ministry of National Defense (MSB) General Directorate of Personnel, Personnel Processing Department, Discipline and Morale Branch with the 2024 General Appointments. Since the date I started my duty on June 5, 2024, I began the preparation process regarding the subjects and ceremonies I am responsible for. However, I witnessed that a personnel member working in the same room in my branch, who holds the status of National Security Expert named M.E., was making statements within the scope of a 'religious sermon' in a way that other military and civilian personnel in the branch could hear, and was trying to instill the idea of our Prophet that 'The beard is the ornament of the believer.' Upon my warning that he should not make statements regarding religious matters, he said, 'You do not know fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), that is why you are ignorant.' After he walked towards me to escalate the issue, his physical attack ended with the intervention of civilian clerk Mr. D. He put on his suit jacket and quickly left the room.

MAFIA-LIKE SITTING STYLE AND ADDRESS

In the afternoon at 13:30, I was called by the Orderly Sergeant of Deputy General Manager S.E. and summoned to his office. Since I did not know the location of his office, from the moment I entered S.E.'s office accompanied by Lieutenant Mustafa, I was subjected to attempts to reprimand me with a mafia-like sitting style and manner of address.

I believe that I was subjected to mobbing by acting within the scope of the Menzil sect or another parallel structure. I respectfully request that the necessary disciplinary investigation be conducted regarding the subject and that the necessary administrative actions be taken against the mentioned personnel.”

Following this letter, a notice was sent to the lieutenant colonel, who had started his duty at the Ministry of National Defense on June 5. With a notification marked "Isolated assignment," the Lieutenant Colonel was reassigned to Şırnak "ex officio" on August 28. It was noted that the assignment was carried out against the Lieutenant Colonel's will.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

12punto columnist and journalist Müyesser Yıldız addressed the incident in her article dated September 1 titled "Is There a Sect Conflict in the MSB Too?" and penned the allegation, which had been put into an official petition, as follows:

"An officer recently appointed to the Ministry of National Defense is disturbed by an expert, likely a civilian, who shares the same room and makes 'religious sermon' style statements, and warns him.

The expert in question not only replies, 'You do not know fiqh, that is why you are ignorant,' but also walks towards the officer. Other personnel intervene, and the expert leaves the room.

After a while, the officer is told that one of the civilian administrators of the MSB is calling him. He goes. Let's read the rest from his petition:
