Mehmet Ali Şirin, a 37-year-old father of two living in Gaziantep, went to Gaziantep City Hospital at 00:03 on June 29 with complaints of severe chest pain and arm numbness. After patient registration, Şirin's wife, Ayşe Şirin, informed the nurse that her husband's condition was poor and asked when it would be his turn. At 00:14, the nurse only measured the blood pressure of Şirin, who stated that his pain was increasing and that he suspected a heart attack, without performing an EKG.

At 00:15, a queue number was issued for the doctor in Triage 6. At 00:28, despite Şirin stating his symptoms, the doctor told him to wait for his turn without ordering an EKG. Upon this, Şirin's wife asked the nurses if other doctors could attend to him.

According to the report by Cengiz Anıl Bölükbaş from T24, at 00:30, Şirin's wife went to see another doctor at the hospital. After a 2.5-minute conversation, Şirin's wife received the same response. Thereupon, Şirin and his wife waited for their turn.

DESPITE BEING CALLED "EMERGENCY," NO INTERVENTION WAS MADE; HE COLLAPSED WHILE WAITING IN LINE

At 00:37, Şirin collapsed while waiting in line. Following this, hospital security came to Şirin and placed him face down on a stretcher. After the commotion, the doctor who came out of the triage room ordered Şirin to be taken to the yellow room, despite the reported symptoms. During this time, no first aid was administered to Şirin, and no pulse check was performed.

NO FIRST AID WAS ADMINISTERED

Şirin was taken to the yellow room, but no doctor intervention occurred initially. One of the doctors was able to reach the doctor on duty in the yellow area by phone. The arriving doctor turned over Şirin, who was lying face down on the stretcher. The doctor asked for Şirin's wife to be called to find out what had happened. During this time, only a nurse established an intravenous line for Şirin; no pupil or pulse check was performed.

INSTEAD OF AN EKG, HE WAS GIVEN "DIAZEM"

Şirin's wife, who arrived at the yellow area, said that her husband had complaints of severe chest pain and arm numbness. Subsequently, two doses of "diazem," a drug used in the treatment of conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and muscle spasms, were administered to Şirin.

HIS BODY TURNED BLUE, IT WAS REALIZED HE DIED IN THE RED AREA

At 00:44, after his body turned blue, Şirin was taken to the red area. The doctors said that Şirin had a seizure, that they had administered Diazem, and that his body then turned blue. The doctors on duty in the red area realized that Şirin had died during their pulse check.

The doctors performed CPR until 01:30 but could not bring Şirin back to life. After his death, Şirin was taken to the hospital morgue. Upon learning of her husband's death, Ayşe Şirin had a breakdown at the hospital, shouting, "I screamed at you that my husband's condition was an emergency."

It was determined that Şirin died of a heart attack.

A DEBT NOTICE SENT TO AYŞE ŞİRİN, WHO WAS GIVEN AN INJECTION AFTER COLLAPSING AT THE HOSPITAL

Three months after the incident, a debt notice was sent to Ayşe Şirin by the hospital. When Şirin went to the hospital, she was told that the notice was for the injection she received after she had a breakdown. Despite stating that her husband was insured, Şirin was told that the fee had to be paid because no identification was presented at the hospital.

HOSPITAL DID NOT SEND TRIAGE DOCUMENTS, CLAIMING "INSUFFICIENT ARCHIVE"

Following the incident, Şirin's family filed a criminal complaint. After the complaint, an investigation was launched by the Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Providing information about the file, lawyer Serap Taştemel said they are waiting for investigation permission from the Professional Liability Board. Stating that they have also filed a compensation lawsuit in the administrative court, Taştemel expressed that the Ministry of Health has not yet responded and has requested an extension. The file is progressing very slowly. Taştemel stated that triage documents were requested through a writ during the investigation phase, but the hospital did not share the documents with the prosecutor's office, citing "insufficient archive" as the reason.

Şirin's wife lost her mother, father, and siblings in the February 6 earthquakes.
