Health condition of Beylikdüzü Mayor Çalık causes concern

Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık had been arrested as part of operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and was first sent to Silivri, and subsequently transferred to İzmir Buca Kırıklar Prison.

The health condition of Çalık, who has undergone cancer treatment twice in the past, continues to pose a risk under prison conditions.

Last week, a request for his release was filed on the grounds that Çalık faced a life-threatening risk under prison conditions, after which examinations and tests were conducted at the İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital.

However, Çalık, who was transferred back to the hospital on June 23 due to recurring pain, is being closely monitored.

According to a report by the Cumhuriyet newspaper, Çalık was taken for an emergency tomography scan last Friday, and the results were evaluated by a 12-member hospital board.

As a result of this evaluation, it was decided to perform another biopsy due to the mass in Çalık's neck, and four pieces of the mass were removed. A similar biopsy procedure had previously been performed on June 24.
