Important statement from Health Minister Memişoğlu on the 'Newborn Gang'

Statements continue regarding the 'newborn gang' investigation in Turkey, which revealed that individuals were causing deaths and gaining illicit profits by referring emergency infant cases to the neonatal units of private hospitals with which they had prior agreements.

Regarding the issue on the agenda, Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu made important statements about the 'Newborn Gang'.

"WE ARE TAKING EVERY PRECAUTION"

The highlights from Minister Memişoğlu's statements are as follows:

"Our health system is capable of providing the best health services in the world and is an example to the world. We will not allow illegality or malpractice. This is Turkey's value. Unfortunately, there are attacks on these values of Turkey. We are taking every precaution in this regard. The public is being occupied by the organization of some individuals who have not received their share of humanity regarding the newborn gang. It is an unacceptable illegality.

"AS A STATE, WE WILL ALWAYS PURSUE THEM"

As a state, we will always pursue them. This is a process that began in May 2023 with the Provincial Health Directorate reporting a tip-off to the financial crimes unit and the prosecutor's office. With the detection and proof of the organization that started with the letter from the Provincial Health Directorate, the criminals were arrested during this process.

"AS THE MINISTRIES OF HEALTH, JUSTICE, AND INTERIOR, WE ARE DOING WHAT IS NECESSARY"

Among them were some healthcare workers as well as non-healthcare workers. The judicial process is ongoing. In this process, we are doing what is necessary as the state, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Interior, both in terms of requirements and punishment.

INVESTIGATION WAS INITIATED DURING MINISTER MEMİŞOĞLU'S TIME AS PROVINCIAL HEALTH DIRECTOR
