Health Minister Memişoğlu's statement on 'monkeypox': 'I hope it does not come to our country'
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu noted that there are no cases of the monkeypox virus in Turkey, while warning citizens not to panic.
Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu made statements regarding the M-pox (monkeypox) virus.
Stating that no cases have been seen in the country, Memişoğlu said, "We have people applying to hospitals regarding this issue. But so far, no diagnosis has been made. If we do make such a diagnosis, we will report it and do what is necessary, including isolation. As a ministry, we are on alert regarding everything from vaccines to testing. There is no need for fear or panic. We will continue in our current position with precautions, planning, and close monitoring."
Health Minister Memişoğlu noted the following:
"There is a consensus that it will not cause an epidemic like Covid, and even if it does, a pandemic will not occur. It may be seen sporadically; but this will not be an epidemic. We do not need any extra measures at this moment.
'I HOPE IT DOES NOT COME TO OUR COUNTRY'
People should not panic; as healthcare professionals, we have taken all kinds of precautions. I hope it does not come to our country, but if it does, we will do what is necessary. I want people to be at ease regarding this matter.
A country that can produce a Covid vaccine in a short time can produce any kind of vaccine. We have the power to both supply and produce this vaccine when necessary. People should not be anxious about this.
We have instructed people at border crossings to be more sensitive in detecting skin lesions and controlling such entries. There is sensitivity at the customs regarding this issue. But we will not take any special measures or restrictions."
